Hello,
I have had a couple of questions about positions so I am sending out an email with details of the ones people have asked about. The deadline has extended so that you can keep submitting nominations until tonight at 6 pm.

Short Summaries:

Council Chair is the head representative of the Tech Catholic Community to the rest of campus.

Education Coordinator is responsible for coordinating events related to theological and faith-based discussions on campus.

Treasurer operates the TCC budget and works with student government on funding and reimbursement.

Community Coordinators organize social events for TCC, coordinate speaker nights (Friday Night Suppers), publicize for these events around campus, and arrange group parties.

Prayer Coordinators organize and promote prayer related events for TCC.

Service Coordinators organize service opportunities for the TCC.

Publicity Chair is a new position that updates the Facebook page, website, and bulletin board.

Longer summaries of each job:

Council Chair is in charge of representing the TCC in the Association of Student Activities, running council meetings, ensuring that everything happens, and more. The position doesn’t require that you do everything but rather divvy up tasks and check to make sure everything that needs done is completed. Other responsibilities include adding people to the mailing list, replying to any emails that people ask (time of mass, donations, etc). This position is one year because there is a learning curve associated with being the head person in charge making decisions.

Education Coordinator is in charge of coordinating events related to theological and faith-based discussions on campus, specifically in coordinating the Monday Night Discussion series. Responsibilities include planning topics, coordinating speakers, working with Loni to reserve space, and procuring food for events.

Treasurer runs and monitors the TCC budget, funds events, requests funding from student government for events/activities, and liaises with student government to secure reimbursements for these events via RFPs. The treasurer will also work to secure reimbursements via the TCC’s internal bank account for events/expenses not covered by student government. Anything involving money must go through the treasurer. The position has a term of one year because of the more challenging (but rewarding) learning curve.

Community Coordinators organize social events for TCC, coordinate speaker nights (Friday Night Suppers), publicize for these events around campus, and arrange group parties. In more detail, it involves interfacing with various groups within TCC (such as FOCUS, Praise Band, and other groups) to organize events in order to improve TCC’s social scene and to foster a stronger community environment.

Prayer Coordinators organize and promote prayer related events for the TCC. They are in charge of organizing (in conjunction with the FOCUS missionaries) prayer nights, with particular emphasis on praying for students, their grades/tests, and intentions. The prayer coordinators also encourage use of the tcc-prayer mailing list. They also update, print, and distribute Mass/Confession cards for churches in the Boston/Cambridge area every year.

Service Coordinators organize service opportunities for the TCC. The position is fairly flexible in the sense that the coordinators are free to pick which types of service events or activities they’d like to organize. Past activities have included Operation Rice Bowl, rosary-making, cleaning up neighborhoods, food pantry trips, and Christmas gift wrapping.

Publicity Chair helps the community chairs at events by taking photos, sending out reminder emails, and helping to poster across campus. The position also entails updating the TCC website as well as Facebook page with events as well as photos.

Subject: [TCC-social] TCC Fall Elections

Brothers and Sisters,

The TCC elections commission is now accepting nominations for council positions whose terms will expire at the end of this semester.

Nominations will be accepted until 12:00pm on Sunday November 24th. The Council will vote on positions at the Council meeting which starts immediately after nominations close.

Please submit nominations for council positions by e-mailing the Elections Commissioner at tcc-chair at mit.edu<mailto:tcc-chair at mit.edu>

Here are the positions which are up for election:

1. Council Chair (2-semester term)
2. Treasurer (2-semester term)
3. Secretary
4. Prayer Coordinator
5. Service Coordinator
6. Education Coordinator
7. Community Coordinator
8. Undergrad Member-At-Large
9. Graduate Member-At-Large
10. Webmaster

IMPORTANT: The elections commissioner will contact all nominees to confirm their nomination. However, please consider talking personally to an individual prior to nominating him or her, because (1) a personal appeal from a friend is more effective and (2) the nominations committee will already by pretty busy without trying to answer lots of questions from nominees (although we will do our best to talk to everyone). Self-nominations are permitted.

If you have questions about a position, please email tcc-council at mit.edu<mailto:tcc-council at mit.edu>.

Peace!

Mic Byrne
TCC Treasurer
