The Philadelphia Argentine Tango School, in collaboration with Dance
Philadelphia Argentine Tango

Press of Florida, <http://www.upf.com/>is pleased to present a multivalent
event including visual art, a book reading, and dancing on December 7, 2012
from 6pm-2am as part of Fishtown First Friday.

The event includes the presentation of a new book on tango by Carolyn
Merritt, an exhibit of paintings and prints by Lesley Mitchell (Dance
Philadelphia Argentine Tango), and Lesley & Kelly's Friday Night Milonga
with performances.

All events are FREE to the public and take place at 2030 Frankford Ave,
Philadelphia, PA 19125.  Details on each aspect of the event follow.

Carolyn Merritt <merritt.carolyn at gmail.com> presents her new book, *Tango
Nuevo <http://www.upf.com/book.asp?id=MERRI001>*, an innovative study of
contemporary Argentine tango.  Combining sensuous prose, provocative
images, and heart-wrenching stories, Merritt presents an unflinching look
at the complex motivations driving the pursuit to master this intricate
dance.   Carolyn teaches anthropology and performance studies at Bryn Mawr
College and Arcadia University, and writes regularly for ThINKingDANCE.  *Tango

Lesley Mitchell<http://www.philadelphiatangoschool.com/www.lesleymitchell.com>will
exhibit Dreams of the City: Paintings & Prints, this month at the
*Philadelphia Argentine Tango School.* Mitchell, a painter, printmaker and
book artist based in Philadelphia, presents paintings with surreal urban
imagery, in addition to linocuts & collages.

Mitchell combines a lifelong practice in the visual arts with a career
teaching, dancing and organizing Argentine tango. She trained as a
painter/printmaker at the PAFA and with her husband Kelly Ray is co-owner
of DanceArt Studios, home of Dance Philadelphia Argentine Tango, 1315
Buttonwood Street in Philadelphia. She shows her artwork nationally and
internationally; two of her artist’s books are featured in the recently
released *1,000 Artist's Books* by Quarry Books.

Join us after the artist's reception and book signing for the Friday Night
MILONGA (Tango Dance Party) with DJ Lesley.  This 20-year-old weekly

Ray is FREE December 7 thanks to the
sponsorship of the University Press of Florida. No partners are needed,
beginner class at 7pm. Featuring tango performances by Meredith Klein &
Damian Lobato of the Philadelphia Argentine Tango School, and Kelly &
Lesley, plus a reading by Carolyn Merritt from her new book, *TANGO NUEVO*.
