DANIELA'S BIO:
Master Teacher, Choreographer, Performer

A tango teacher, performer and choreographer, Daniela Arcuri grew up in
the heart of Buenos Aires, where she absorbed the English, French,
Spanish and mostly Italian influences that define the cosmopolitan
"porteño" culture of this port city. At age thirteen, Daniela began
training in ballet, modern dance, music, acting, jazz, argentinian folk
dancing, and gymnastics and began teaching, choreographing, and
performing tango for modern dance at the age of fifteen. She is a
graduate of the prestigious Escuela National de Danzas and Instituto
Nacional de Gimnasia in Buenos Aires and former competitive athlete on
the Argentinian National Rythmic Gymnastics team.

She began her tango performing career in her early twenties in a
production in Toronto, Canada with legendary tango dancers Juan Carlos
Copes, Maria Nieves, and Pepito Avellaneda. Later, at the age of
twenty-four she began to teach and choreograph tango in Eduardo
Arquimbau's tango academy in Buenos Aires and developed a passion for
the drama of the latin dances and cultures, recognizing that the Tango
was her own artistic vocabulary.

Her style developed as a result of her training both in ballet and
modern-contemporary dance, and the influence and instruction from some
of the great "milongueros" (the tango masters) of Club Almagro and Villa
Urquiza of Buenos Aires such as Gerardo Portalea, Petaca, and Juan
Bruno. She received her tango instruction in the late 80's from the
best tango masters of that time in Buenos Aires such as Rodolfo Dinzel,
Eduardo Arquimbau, Antonio Todaro, and Pepito Avellaneda and spent many
years dancing and observing in the milongas of Buenos Aires.

Along with Armando Orzuza they were one of the most important
professional tango couples in the world, appearing on the Solo Tango tv
channel in Buenos Aires for several years, owning their own tango school
in Buenos Aires, and visiting more than 200 cities also teaching and
performing in many prestigious festivals in Europe and the U.S.,
including festivals in Boston, New York, and Miami. They helped and
supported the opening of new tango schools in the USA and Europe and
their performances caught the eye of relevant critics of the most
important newspapers of New York City. They have performed along with
very important artists such as Julio Iglesias, Madonna, Libertad
Lamarque, Maria Grana, Alba Solis, Beba Vidart, Juan Carlos Copes and
Marie Nieves, Pepito Avellaneda, Fernando Soler, Sexteto Mayor
Orchestra, Sexteto Tango Orchestra, La Orquesta de Ernesto Franco, The
Symphonic Orchestra from the Hollywood Bowl among others.

Daniela has choreographed and performed in many tango productions
including Tango Pasion. Her latest choreography and performing project,
called Sebastian Tango, was presented at the Complejo Cultural Borges in
Buenos Aires in April, May, and June of 2008. Daniela is now teaching
around the U.S. and residing in Austin, TX.
