Registration is now open for the Milonguero Tango Week(end) with
Alicia Pons (Buenos Aires) and Robert Hauk (Portland OR) in Urbana IL
February 9-14, 2007. Details and registration forms are available from
our web page:

http://www.centraltango.com/TangoInstruction/AliciaRobertWorkshopsFeb07.htm

All workshops will teach the close embrace milonguero style of tango
danced in the milongas of Buenos Aires, as well as at many major tango
festivals in the US. These methods are useful for crowded floors at
any milonga.

The main theme of this tango week is "Communication between Men and
Women in Tango: Technique and Implementation". Alicia and Robert will
co-teach a special 2 part 3-hour workshop on Sunday entitled "Tango
for the Woman's Enjoyment: Leader & Follower Interaction". This
workshop will focus on the Man's and Woman's role in the tango
connection, with the goal of maximizing the enjoyment of tango for
women. There will be limited enrollment in this workshop (20 men and
20 women). Although registration as couples is not required, the class
will be gender balanced and preference will be given to dancers
registering as couples in attaining this balance. PRE-REGISTRATION FOR
THIS WORKSHOP IS REQUIRED!

Other workshops will focus on men's and women's technique in leading
and following, both as a general theme, as well as in particular
contexts:
- Fri Feb 9: evening pre-milonga workshop: Alicia "Milonguero Tango
Technique for Women"; Robert "Milonguero Tango Technique for Men".
- Sat Feb 10: afternoon: Alicia "Men and Women's Strategies and
Technique for Managing the Crowded Dance Floor "
- Sat Feb 10: evening pre-milonga workshop: Robert "Switching between
Forward and Backward Movements: Men & Women's Technique for Changing
Direction"
- Wed Feb 14 evening: Alicia "Between the Steps ... Tango Happens"

Another theme, not independent from the first, is "Acquiring Core
Skills in Milonguero Tango". These workshops are for dancers of other
styles who would like to become competent dancers in the milonguero
style of tango. This involves learning technique as well as basic
concepts of musicality and navigation (and the technique associated
with them) that will help dancers become competent in this style of
tango. Workshops on this theme include:
- Fri Feb 9: evening pre-milonga workshop: Tango Society instructors
Ron & Susana "Intensive Introduction to Tango in Close Embrace"
- Sat Feb 10: afternoon: Robert "The Core of Milonguero Style Tango"
(2 part 3-hr workshop)

Urbana IL, the home of the University of Illinois, is becoming known
as a center for the study of milonguero style tango. Our tango
weekends are fun events with a lot of very good dancers in this style
from all over the Midwest and beyond. As a small city, the cost of
tango events, housing, restaurants, parking, and gasoline in
Champaign-Urbana will be lower than in most large cities. In our small
city, there are a variety of reasonably priced hotels and restaurants
within 10 minutes of the tango event site. Our friendly tango
community is diverse in age and cultural origin, so you will meet a
lot of interesting people.

We look forward to seeing you in Urbana in February.
