[Tang-residents] Graduate Evacuation Policy Changes

Housing policy change for Graduate Housing
February 1, 2010

Existing Policy:
Fire Safety:
*      Setting fires, tampering with firefighting equipment, fire-alarm systems, fire protection sprinklers, or smoke detectors, turning in false alarms, making a bomb threat, or refusing to evacuate during a fire alarm are serious offenses under Massachusetts law and MIT regulations and can result in severe disciplinary action.

New Process:
All residents must evacuate their buildings and adjourn to designated areas during all emergency alarms, as required by law. If a resident fails to evacuate during an emergency alarm,

Defined Disciplinary Action:

*         A fine will be added to the resident's bill of $150.00 for the first offense.   Community service and or immediate eviction will also be considered.

*         The second offense will result in the resident having their License Agreement terminated for violation. Residents will be issued 30 days notice to vacate, and will be subject to current termination policies.
