This week's MIT QIP seminar will take place on Monday, April 26 at
16:00 in 4-237, and features:

Spin-based Quantum Computers: Towards Scalability

by Prof. Dieter Suter (Dept. of Physics, Univ. of Dortmund, Germany)

ABSTRACT

Liquid-state NMR was the first technique that successfully
demonstrated the potential of quantum information processing, and it
still represents the most powerful implementation of a quantum
computer. However, no viable solutions have been found for increasing
the number of qubits in these systems into a range where the
resulting processors are more powerful than conventional electronic
computers. For this purpose, solid-state systems may have some
advantages. Using a solid-state NMR system, we study the scaling of
decoherence rates with the system size and discuss the basics of a
(potentially) scalable system architecture.

Next week: Markus Kindermann (MIT) will speak on "Quantum Information
Processing with Non-Interacting Electrons".
