Dear friends,

Tonight at 7 p.m., MIT Amnesty International will be running a panel
discussion on the case of Omid Kokabee, PhD Candidate in Physics at UT
Austin, recently given a 10-year sentence in Tehran upon a visit to his
family for "collaborating with a foreign government." As Omid is
apolitical and is merely trying to contribute to the field of optics, this
is a major threat both to Omid's career and to the international character
of science. Speaking with be Prof. Eugene Chudnovsky, a former refusenik
and physics professor at CUNY who is very active with the Committee of
Concerned Scientists, and Drs. Kamiar and Arash Alaei, public health
experts and former prisoners in Evin prison, Tehran.

Information, and further relevant background, can be found at our event
page here <http://web.mit.edu/amnesty/www/OmidKokabeeEvent.html>.

We hope that you can attend.

Samuel Markson (on behalf of MIT Amnesty International)
