Come hear Dr. Tommie Smith speak on "Persevering in the Face of
Adversity" on Tuesday, May 4th at 7 PM!


Dr. Tommie Smith won the gold medal in the 200 meters at the 1968
Olympic Games in Mexico City, setting a then-world record time of
19.83 seconds. Dr. Smith, with a black scarf around his neck to
represent black pride, and teammate John Carlos received their medals
shoeless, wearing only black socks to represent black poverty.
As "The Star-Spangled Banner" played, Smith and Carlos
	delivered the salute with heads bowed, a gesture which became front
page news around the world.


									MIT's Johann Sadock will introduce Dr. Smith


When: Tuesday, May 4th at 7 PM
