Far too many of us have been impacted or know someone who has been impacted
by campus sexual violence. If we are going to break the cycle of violence,
students need to step up, speak out, and demand change! On 4/9, the Joint
Committee on Higher Education will hold a hearing open to ALL concerned
citizens on two bills to address campus sexual violence that are
near-universally supported by advocates and experts: H.1208/S.736 "The
Campus Climate Survey Bill" and H.1209/S.764, "An Act Relative to Sexual
Violence on Higher Education Campuses." More information on the bills below.

Come to testify about why these bills are so important to students or just
show up to support your friends and others in the community. Come whenever
you can!!

• *H.1208/S.736*
“The Campus Climate Survey Bill”: Creates a statewide anonymous sexual
assault survey that would increase transparency, ensure that every
student’s voice is heard, and provide accurate data that would be used to
generate campus-specific solutions to the sexual violence epidemic.

• *H.1209/S.764*
“An Act Relative to Sexual Violence on Higher Education Campuses”: Would
require colleges and universities to enter into partnerships with local
rape crisis centers, grant all students access to a confidential resource
advisor to guide them through the reporting process, institute annual
sexual violence prevention and awareness programming, train relevant campus
employees on handling sexual assault complaints, as well as a series of
other basic protections for survivors.

*6. GW at MIT: National Eating Disorder Association Walk*

*Date:* Sunday, April 14, 2019
*Time:* 10-11 am
*Location:* Boston Common

*Why:* NEDA Walks are inspirational, community-building events where
passionate walkers raise money to fund eating disorders education,
prevention, and support, as well as advocacy and research initiatives. The
largest eating disorders awareness events in the nation, NEDA Walks are a
celebration of hope and strength, filled with body-positive activities,
motivational guest speakers, and a short walk to symbolize unity in the
fight against eating disorders.

*9. MIT Clothesline Project *

*When:* April 1-5
*Where:* W20

For the first week of April, which is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, MIT's
Clothesline Project will be on display in W20. First originating in 1990,
The Clothesline Project's mission is to show and educate the community,
through the hanging of t-shirts, that violence is a problem everywhere and
does affect anyone. By establishing our own Clothesline Project in 2011,
MIT is echoing that same message.

Administered by Violence Prevention & Response, the clothesline will be
lined with t-shirts created and decorated by anyone within the MIT
community who is a survivor, as well as those who have been impacted by
violence and/or those who wish to help end sexual violence.

If you are interested in making a t-shirt, please email Melanie Rocco,
Program Assistant of Violence Prevention & Response, at mrocco at mit.edu.

Whereas the official organization uses t-shirt color as representation of
the form of abuse, MIT and Violence Prevention and Response do not follow
this guideline. The t-shirts offered will be multicolored but will be
handed out at random and anonymously hung.
