Come socialize with graduate women across MIT and talk to entrepreneur and
founder Marian Leitner about her experiences! Her newest company, Archer
Roose, sells quality and eco-friendly boxed wine. We will get to experience
her product while we learn about her journey.
**Remember to bring 21+ ID in order to sample the wine!
Light snacks and some non-alcoholic beverages will also be provided.

*3. [MITWGS] Global Studies Forum - Filming the future from Berlin*

Free and open to the public
"With students from Canada, the UK, the US, and over 15 refugees from
Syria, we spent over a month making short films about pity, solidarity,
flight, depression, gentrification, and the (im)possibility of
simultaneously being an artist and a refugee. The first screening at
Berlin's Moviemento theater was filled to capacity. We are now bringing
this film to MIT" - Damani Partridge.

Damani Partridge
A former recipient of the Fulbright Fellowship and the German Federal
Chancellor's Fellowship, Damani Partridge received his Ph.D in Anthropology
from the University of California, Berkeley in 2003. He is currentl  y an
Associate Professor of Anthropology, and Afroamerican and African Studies
at the University of Michigan. In addition to directing Filming Future
Cities Project in Detroit and Berlin, he has published on the politics of
noncitizenship, Holocaust memorialization, African-American military
occupation in post-war Germany, sexuality, Islam, "Blackness," and bodily
regulation. He has also written on the Obama moment in Berlin. In 2012, he
published his first book, Hypersexuality and Headscarves: Race, Sex and
Citizenship in the New Germany.

Join us for a conversation with Andrea Silbert as she discusses the current
picture of women in leadership positions, including hard facts,
misconceptions, and where to go from here.
The evening will start with a reception and refreshments in Lobby 6 at
6:30. The talk will begin at 7:15.

*Speakers*
Azeen Ghorayshi is a science reporter for BuzzFeed News and recipient of
the AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Award and the Evert Clark/Seth Payne
Award for young science journalists.
Sarah Ballard is an astronomer and and a Torres Fellow for Exoplanetary
Research at the MIT Kavli Institute for Astrophysics and Space Research.
She frequently writes about the culture of science and equity issues
therein.
Evelynn M. Hammonds is a professor of the history of science and of African
and African American Studies at Harvard University. She is the former dean
of Harvard College and the first woman and first African-American to hold
that position.

Moderator: Christina Couch is a science journalist and coordinator for the
MIT Communications Forum . Her work explores the intersections of
technology and psychology.

This event is co-sponsored by Radius at MIT and is free for the MIT

Founding Well is a half-day conference focusing on entrepreneurship in the
technology sector.
A collaboration between General Catalyst, the Harvard Business School's
Women's Student Association (WSA), and MIT Sloan Women in Management
(SWIM), Founding Well brings together founders, builders, and investors for
a jam-packed line up of fireside chats, panels, and the Founding Pitch
business plan competition, all focused in the technology sector. Our
fantastic speaker lineup includes:
Zoe Barry, Founder and CEO of ZappRX
Jennifer Lum, Co-Founder of Adelphic
Kirk Arnold, CEO of Data Intensity
Ellen Chisa, VP of Product at Lola
Katie Rae, Managing Director of Project 11 and Chairman of Techstars Boston
...and many more inspiring, accomplished technology entrepreneurs!
Tickets are $15, and include the conference entrance fee and refreshments.
All proceeds go to the winners of the Founding Pitch business plan
competition.
Student attendees can apply to pitch their business idea in the Founding
Well business plan competition. Pitches will be judged by the event
speakers (entrepreneurs and investors) with cash prizes (collected from
event ticket sales by SWIM & the WSA) awarded to the top two teams. To

This annual film festival is a collaborative effort among Women's and
Gender Studies departments involved in the Graduate Consortium in Women's
Studies (as well as select institutions/universities aligned with its
mission) that features films directed by women and about issues relating to
gender, race, sexuality, class and/or feminism.
The focus is on intellectual investigation of these issues as well as
visibility for female directors, and so every film is accompanied by a Q&A
and discussion with either the film director, producer, or a faculty member
from the film screening's host institution host institution.
All films are free and open to the public.
All MIT screenings begin at 7:00pm with Otto’s Pizza served at 6:30pm.

Presenter – Paul R. Fulton, Ed.D., M.S.; Harvard Pilgrim Health Care,
Mindfulness-Based Learning and Founding Member, Institute for Meditation
and Psychotherapy
This program introduces the basic principles and practices of mindfulness,
a concentrated state of awareness that helps people see and respond to
situations with greater clarity. Individuals who employ the techniques of
mindfulness in their work are able to monitor moment-to-moment
effectiveness, respond promptly and appropriately to difficulties as they
arise, and remain open to new ideas and perspectives. Participants will be
introduced to meditation practices that will teach them how to be more
focused, creative, and resilient in all aspects of their lives.

In this workshop, learn what it takes to really shine online. In this
session, you will explore what makes a great professional website, how to
improve your LinkedIn profile, and review what other social media platforms
have to offer. This workshop will help you: improve what people see about
you online; network for long-term career success; find a better job; and
increase your industry-specific learning.

The Fellowships program supports MIT students working on capacity-building
service projects. Students work with community-focused organizations
including non-profits and social enterprises. These can include a student's
own social enterprise.
What can you do? Follow your passion and benefit a community in need! You
can create your own project, continue work on an enterprise you already
started, or intern with a service organization.
We welcome a wide range of service projects and support work in the US and
abroad.
Funding is primarily used for travel/living expenses.
Average summer funding is $4,700.
