"With students from Canada, the UK, the US, and over 15 refugees from Syria, we spent over a month making short films about pity, solidarity, flight, depression, gentrification, and the (im)possibility of simultaneously being an artist and a refugee. The first screening at Berlin's Moviemento theater was filled to capacity. We are now bringing this film to MIT" - Damani Partridge.<br>

Damani Partridge<br>
A former recipient of the Fulbright Fellowship and the German Federal Chancellor's Fellowship, Damani Partridge received his Ph.D in Anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley in 2003. He is currentl y an Associate Professor of Anthropology, and Afroamerican and African Studies at the University of Michigan. In addition to directing Filming Future Cities Project in Detroit and Berlin, he has published on the politics of noncitizenship, Holocaust memorialization, African-American military occupation in post-war Germany, sexuality, Islam, "Blackness," and bodily regulation. He has also written on the Obama moment in Berlin. In 2012, he published his first book, Hypersexuality and Headscarves: Race, Sex and Citizenship in the New Germany.</font><br>

This annual film festival is a collaborative effort among Women's and Gender Studies departments involved in the Graduate Consortium in Women's Studies (as well as select institutions/universities aligned with its mission) that features films directed by women and about issues relating to gender, race, sexuality, class and/or feminism. <br>
The focus is on intellectual investigation of these issues as well as visibility for female directors, and so every film is accompanied by a Q&A and discussion with either the film director, producer, or a faculty member from the film screening's host institution host institution. <br>
All films are free and open to the public.<br>
All MIT screenings begin at 7:00pm with Otto’s Pizza served at 6:30pm.</span><br>

We welcome a wide range of service projects and support work in the US and abroad.<br>
