The Office of the Dean for Graduate Education has opened a call for Program
Assistants for the MIT Summer Research Program (MSRP) and we invite you to
apply! All graduate students are eligible.
Program Assistants (PAs):
• Work as team and with the MSRP staff to provide mentorship outside of the
lab and facilitate a positive summer experience for undergraduate summer
research interns.
• Participate with a time commitment of 20 hours per week from June 4 to
August 6, 2017.
• Receive a $5,000 stipend for 10 weeks (9 week program +
training/meetings), paid weekly.
MSRP is a 9-week summer research experience for talented, underrepresented
minority and underserved undergraduate students from other institutions who
might benefit from spending a summer on MIT’s campus conducting research
and participating in academic, professional development, and community
building events and activities. You can find more information about the

The Rabobank-MIT Food & Agribusiness Innovation Prize, sponsored
by Rabobank and supported by MIT J-WAFS and the MIT Food and Agriculture
Club, is a premier business-plan competition for university and graduate
students. This prize is distinct from other competitions because of its
specific focus on food and agribusiness and access it will provide
successful entrants to the broad business community. The competition takes
place in two stages: teams will submit their first round applications by
late December, from which finalists will be selected to compete for a total
of $25,000 in prize money.

clinics for the MIT community each year. It's a great opportunity for
individuals and teams to get focused developmental time.

Hacking Arts ignites entrepreneurship and innovation within the creative
arts. We bring together creative technologists, artists, innovators and
hackers at MIT to explore the future of the arts at our annual Conference,
Tech Expo and Hackathon.
Hacking Arts 2016 will mark the fourth annual festival held at the MIT
Media Lab, fostering community and celebrating innovation in the creative
industries: Design, Fashion, Film/Video, Gaming, Music, Performing Arts,

Whether it's the reaction induced between two creative contraptions or the
joyful reactions sparked on the faces of spectators, the MIT Museum's
Friday After Thanksgiving (F.A.T.) Chain Reaction is a one-of-a-kind
engineering feat that must be seen to be believed!
This year's theme is symmetry for our 19th (XIX) chain reaction, and
artists Arthur Ganson and Jeff Lieberman will mastermind the choreography
of this Rube Goldberg machine, assisted by teams and participants who range
from Girl Scout troops and school groups to artists and engineers.
Spectators can meet the teams and engage in themed hands-on activities
while waiting for the magic moment when all the machines are linked up to
set off a chain reaction with a surprise ending.
Ticket includes admission to the MIT Museum on Nov. 25th

We are pleased to announce the launch of the MIT Work-Life Center’s Fall
2016 Seminar Series. Our presenters, who are experts in their fields, will
share research-based strategies, tips, and information on more than 25
topics, including changing how you respond to stress; supporting your
child’s emotional and intellectual development; understanding the U.S.
college admissions process; navigating life as a young professional; and
learning how to help an aging family member.
All seminars are free of charge and open to the entire MIT community and
their families; however, registration is required.
We believe these seminars and workshops will help MIT community members
find better balance in their professional and personal lives. We appreciate
your help, as always, in communicating this information to the broader MIT

The E^3 Mentoring Program is currently accepting mentor applications!
Mentors are preferably women of color majoring in STEM fields. Application
takes approximately 10 to 20 minutes. Perfect to pay it forward and help
students in the Boston area learn about college life, the college process,
and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields.
E^3: Empowering, Encouraging, Eliminating Barriers is a mentoring group for
motivated, underprivileged, and/or disadvantaged female students in grades
9th-12th. We are a student run organization comprised of college mentors
and high school mentees. We meet a few times a month from March to May.
Our mission is to build awareness about the lack of minority women in STEM
fields, eliminate barriers of opportunities, foster learning and academic
success, and cultivate leadership by bringing together the top leaders of
today with the striving leaders of tomorrow.

ISLAND LIFE: Tropical Field Studies of Art+Nature in Puerto Rico is a
hands-on, immersive, and project-based program that integrates biology and
art in the field, at various environments in Puerto Rico. The focus of the
program is to learn about Puerto Rico's diverse wildlife through artmaking
and field biology.  We travel to rainforests, dry forests, beach, coastal,
coral reef, mangrove, and mountain environments.  The program involves
multiple site-specific projects that integrate creativity, art and biology.
