EvLab from the Department of Brain & Cognitive Sciences at MIT is currently
running an experiment which requires native female speakers of some
languages to read a story in their native language into a microphone, while
we record their voice. The recording session would take place in MIT's
building 46 (43 Vassar St, Cambridge, MA 02139), lasts ~2 hours, and
participants will receive $50 as compensation in the form of an Amazon gift
card. Speakers will be asked to identify certain passages from a story book
in their native language, and read/record those passages.

We are currently in need of native female speakers of the following
languages:

Apply for a fantastic networking and career building event this fall! We
are co-hosting our 2nd Young Scholars Conference (YSC) at Brown University
this upcoming *September 16-17, 2016*. The YSC is a career and networking
conference that empowers women in STEM as they prepare for the job market.
The YSC showcases participant research while providing practical experience
in job interviews and presentations for different career tracks and
settings. In addition, YSC facilitates the construction of a professional
STEM network, with opportunities to meet with women with careers in
academia, industry, policy, patent law, etc. This year, the conference
theme is “Mechanisms of Disease Intervention,” which encompasses disease
research from molecular biology to biomedical engineering.

To encourage participation throughout the greater New England area, travel
and accommodations will be *reimbursed up to $500*.

Conference events including keynote addresses by an industry scientist
(TBA) and Dr. Cynthia Reinhart-King of Cornell University and a career
panel will expose participants to a range of STEM careers and research
approaches. Additionally, participants will develop skills essential for
competing in the job market by engaging in mock interviews, chalk talks,
and a poster fair.

Each participant will present a poster of their research at the YSC Poster
Symposium.

Throughout the year, the ART+BIO Collaborative offers Field Studies in
Art+Nature, educational travel courses that integrate field biology and
art. We are still accepting applicants for ISLAND LIFE, a tropical field
study that will take place August 15-20th.

ISLAND LIFE: Tropical Field Studies of Art+Nature in Puerto Rico is a
hands-on, immersive, and project-based program that integrates biology and
art in the field, at various environments in Puerto Rico. The focus of the
program is to learn about Puerto Rico's diverse wildlife through artmaking
and field biology. We travel to rainforests, dry forests, beach, coastal,
coral reef, mangrove, and mountain environments. The program involves
multiple site-specific projects that integrate creativity, art and biology.

Our Free Fun Fridays offer visitors no-cost admission to many of the most
treasured cultural venues in Massachusetts. This program was created to
increase access and enrichment opportunities for children and families
throughout Massachusetts during the summer months. Every Friday, from the
end of June through the end of August, multiple sites are open for free. We
reach out to schools, veterans groups, libraries, seniors’ centers, and
many other community organizations to ensure that everyone knows that they
are also welcome.
