talk "Bringing Sexy Back - Reclaiming Sex and Intimacy After Baby Arrives."
This talk is for expecting couples, new parents, and partners contemplating

The WGS/GCWS's annual collaboratively-produced Women Take the Reel film
festival now has its own Facebook page

This annual film festival is a collaborative effort among Women's and
Gender Studies departments involved in the Graduate Consortium in Women's
Studies (as well as select institutions/universities aligned with its
mission) that features films about issues relating to gender, race,
sexuality, class and/or feminism. The theme of this year’s festival is
*Activism*.

The focus is on the intellectual investigation of these issues, so every
film is accompanied by a Q&A and discussion with the film director,
producer, local activists and practitioners, and/or faculty members from
the host institution for each film.

POWER’s professional career development seminars focus on the speaker’s
personal experiences, insights into their current work, as well as
work-life integration issues. Prof. Prather will discuss what has
contributed to her success, the challenges she has overcome, and advice for
current postdocs. She will also talk about maintaining a balanced life, in
light of the rigors of an industrial and academic career. We hope that the
interactions will assist women postdocs in navigating their careers and
will also help them build the professional connections.

Speaker bio:

*Kristala L. Jones Prather* is Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering
at MIT and an investigator in the Synthetic Biology Engineering Research
Center, funded by the National Science Foundation. Her research interests
are centered on the engineering of recombinant microorganisms for the
production of small molecules. Prather received an SB degree from MIT and a
PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, and worked in bioprocess
research and development at Merck Research Laboratories prior to joining
the MIT faculty. She has received numerous awards, including a spot on the
MIT Technology Review‘s TR35, a list of innovators under the age of 35.
Prather has been recognized for excellence in teaching at MIT with several
awards, including an appointment as a MacVicar Faculty Fellow, the highest
honor given for undergraduate teaching at MIT.

The MIT Public Service Center has funded community service opportunities
available to MIT students. This is a great opportunity that allows students
to carry out service projects locally, nationally, or abroad in their field
of study or interest. Our office covers the personal travel and living
expenses as well as advises them along the way!

The Fellowships program supports MIT students working on capacity-building
service projects. Students work with community-focused organizations
including non-profits and social enterprises. These can include a student's
own social enterprise.

You can create your own project, continue work on an enterprise you already
started, or intern with a service organization. We welcome a wide range of
service projects and support work in the US and abroad.

Applications for Summer Fellowships must be submitted by* noon on March

As you know, meeting or exceeding Title IX compliance standards is a key
tool for ensuring the success of student parents and for advancing women’s
representation in STEM fields. Our website helps make that easier by
providing user-friendly information and resources on Title IX for faculty,
administrators, and pregnant students and postdocs. The site includes a
wide range of tools—from introductory videos to in-depth best-practice
guides. This has the potential to make a big difference in the lives of
many women and change the face of STEM!

This two-day symposium is asnapshot of the state of language in today's
society as it relates to, mirrors, and affects perceptions of gender.
Anthropologists, authors, computer scientists, journalists, linguists,
performing artists, politicians, and psychologists will explore different
facets of the interplay of gender and language.

The conference begins on Thursday evening with "Plays with Words," an
evening about language and gender in comedy, featuring comedian Cameron
Esposito and ImprovBoston. March 4 brings a full day of panels that will
consider moving beyond binary distinctions, what the Internet and big data
analysis can teach us about gender and language, and the role of gender in
public discourse. Through comparative perspectives, multidisciplinary
approaches, and contemporary examples, this conference examines the
inextricably related concepts of gender, language, and culture. Janet
Mock—a cultural commentator, advocate for trans women’s rights, and New
York Times bestselling author—will delivery the keynote address.
