We are pleased to announce the launch of the MIT Work-Life Center’s Spring
Seminar Series. Our presenters, who are experts in their fields, will share
research-based strategies, tips, and information on more than 25 topics,
including eldercare; mindfulness to reduce stress and maintain focus;
supporting your school-age child’s emotional and intellectual development;
U.S. college admissions; cultivating productive relationships at work;
navigating life as a young professional; and creating a successful,
meaningful, and fulfilling next stage of life.

All seminars are free of charge and open to the entire MIT community and
their families; however, registration is required.

Different stages of grad school pose different challenges. Want to learn
how to recognize and prevent anxiety, depression, and suicide in friends
and loved ones? Want to talk about these issues? We've assembled a panel of
experts for discussion and answering questions.

*5. Call for Writers for Sexual Assault Awareness Month Series in The Tech*

The Sexual Assault Awareness Month committee is partnering with The Tech to
publish a 4-part series about sexual assault issues. The goal of the series
is to diversify the narrative about sexual assault by highlighting the
experiences of activists and victim advocates and survivors from minority
communities, including people of color, LGTBQ and male survivors. The SAAM
committee hopes that the series will encourage more continuous discussions
on campus about sexual assault, greater empathy for survivors and increased
support of institutions and initiatives that aim to prevent sexual assault
and support survivors.

If you are interested in sharing your personal perspective on
sexual-assault related issues for the series, the SAAM communication
committee looks forward to working with you (email us at: saam-comm at mit.edu).
The piece may be published anonymously and should be 800 words or less.
Both the SAAM communication committee and the dedicated Tech editor for
this series can provide you with writing support. Please submit at your own
discretion.

This exciting and interdisciplinary symposium features cutting-edge work
across various fields of graduate study with presentations ranging from
LGBT representation in comic books to theorizing digital performativity.
Panel topics for the day include queer identities, visual representations
of race and ethnicity, space and place, theorizing gender, literary
analysis, and transnational labor, political, and children’s issues. The
day will conclude with a keynote speech by Professor Elora Halim Chowdhury.

The 2015 Louis Kampf Writing Prize in Women's and Gender Studies

The $300 prize, sponsored by The Program in Women's and Gender Studies
(WGS), was started in 1995-96 to honor Louis Kampf, distinguished professor
emeritus of Literature and Women's Studies, and to reward high quality
undergraduate writing in women's and gender studies. The Prize is judged by
faculty from WGS and from Comparative Media Studies | Writing (CMS | W) and
also includes a luncheon with committee faculty and a guest of your
choosing.

MIT students can submit entries in different genres of academic writing as
well as fiction and poetry. Submissions should provide thoughtful
reflection using gender as a central category of analysis.

All entries must be submitted in person to 14E-316 or emailed to wgs at mit.edu

after the deadline, pending available space in the class.

You are invited to an exhibition of Liane Brandon's photographs of women
powerlifters in the Mayor's Gallery at Boston City Hall.   The exhibit
celebrating Women's History Month is sponsored by The Mayor's Office of
Arts + Culture and the Boston Women's Commission.

*LIFT *is a series of photographs celebrating four women powerlifters -
women who defy physical and cultural stereotypes. They range in age from 27
to 60 and they are smart, interesting and strong. They have all won
regional, national or world competitions. Lodrina is a forensic computer
expert who weighs 123 pounds and can lift (an astonishing) 385 pounds. She
just placed first in national competition. Jessica has a bachelor's degree
in kinesthesiology. Candace is a mom, the lead singer in a band, and a
national title holder. Jane, the oldest, is a grandmother who went to
Wellesley College. She holds four world records.
