Two positions are still available in the Graduate Community Fellows program
in the Office of the Dean for Graduate Education!

Graduate Community Fellows are a cadre of graduate students who work on
projects and assignments that enhance MIT graduate community in unique
ways.  Fellows receive partial stipend support for the length of their
appointment period.  Each Fellow reports to a staff member either in the
Office of the Dean for Graduate Education or in a partner organization, and
focuses on a specific project.

Help undergraduates learn about and prepare for grad school!

We are looking for MIT graduate students who are passionate about
encouraging underrepresented undergraduates to apply to and attend graduate
school. Using the Grad Catalyst model, you will have the opportunity to
share your own personal experiences while teaching students at
minority-serving institutions how to prepare for and navigate the graduate
application process. The Grad Catalyst consists of a one-hour presentation
that covers what graduate school is and the steps students should take to
be successful graduate school applicants. The Grad Catalyst is meant to be
a conversation, which allows undergraduate students to get honest answers
from current graduate students. We will host an information session and
training for interested graduate students. Participation in the training
does not imply a long-term commitment and you will be able to decide
afterwards whether you want to participate in the Grad Catalyst or not.

political activism. Recent events spotlight how universities continue to

The E^3 Mentoring Program is currently accepting mentor applications!
Mentors are preferably women of color majoring in STEM fields. Application
takes approximately 10 to 20 minutes. Perfect to pay it forward and help
students in the Boston area learn about college life, the college process,
and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields. Please spread
the word.

E^3: Empowering, Encouraging, Eliminating Barriers is a mentoring group for
motivated, underprivileged, and/or disadvantaged female students in grades
9th-12th. We are a student run organization comprised of college mentors
and high school mentees. We meet a few times a month from March to May.

Our mission is to build awareness about the lack of minority women in STEM
fields, eliminate barriers of opportunities, foster learning and academic
success, and cultivate leadership by bringing together the top leaders of
today with the striving leaders of tomorrow.

We are looking for a Head TA and TAs for the IAP course Momentum. Attached
are the job descriptions of both positions.

MOMENTUM is a 4 week course over MIT’s Independent Activities Period
(January 4th - January 29th). This year we will be partnering with the NSF
Center for Sensorimotor Neural Engineering. The Center explores the
brain-computer interface; its mission is to improve lives by connecting the
brain with technology. The theme will be: Explore the Brain Computer
Interface – Control the World with Your Mind. Students will work in small
teams to construct a system that controls a robotic arm in coordination
with a human arm to perform a task. The course will culminate with group
presentations to industry representatives.

The Office of the Dean for Graduate Education has opened a call for Program
Assistants for the MIT Summer Research Program (MSRP) and we invite you to
apply! All graduate students are eligible.

Program Assistants (PAs):

   - Work as team and with the MSRP staff to provide mentorship and
   facilitate a positive research experience for undergraduate summer interns.
   - Participate with a time commitment of 20 hours per week from June 5 to
   August 6, 2016.
   - Receive a $5,000 stipend for 10 weeks (9 week program +
   training/meetings), paid weekly.

MSRP is a 9-week summer research experience for talented, underrepresented
minority and underserved undergraduate students from other institutions who
might benefit from spending a summer on MIT’s campus working in a research

This class will discuss specific tools and interventions that business
leaders can use to unlock value by attracting and developing a diverse
workforce. Breaking the Mold co-founder Elena Mendez-Escobar, now at
McKinsey and Company, will unpack recent research linking diversity to
performance and will explain how implicit bias remain a key barrier for
diversity. Students will dissect successful interventions that business and
organizations have put in place to manage the effects of unconscious bias
and then develop their own initiatives for specific business environments.
This class will be highly interactive and include guest speakers from
McKinsey, simulations, and small-group experiential activities.

Partners Connected Health at Massachusetts General Hospital is conducting a
research study to evaluate a new vaginally-inserted temperature monitor.

The primary purpose of the study is to gather information about the safety
and user experience of the device and evaluate how well the device works
with predicting the day of ovulation and fertility window.

Participants may receive up to $500 for completing the study.

The L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science program recognizes and rewards the
contributions women make in STEM fields and identifies exceptional women
researchers committed to serving as role models for younger generations.
More than 2,250 women scientists in over 110 countries have been recognized
since the program began in 1998.

In the US, the For Women In Science fellowship program awards five
post‐doctoral women scientists annually with grants of $60,000 each.
Applicants are selected from a variety of fields, including the life and
physical/material sciences, technology (including computer science),
engineering, and mathematics.
