Graduate Women at MIT (GWAMIT) is pleased to present the annual GWAMIT Leadership Conference, to be held at MIT from November 4-14, 2013. This year's conference features an opening keynote by Rachel Simmons and a closing keynote by Robin Chase, along with other exciting events geared towards professional development of graduate women.
 
Registration is now open! Come to any or all of our Leadership Conference events at no cost! Please refer to the conference website for details about the events and links for registration. If you would be able to help setup, cleanup or take photographs at an event, please email: gwamit-leadership at mit.edu.

Diane Rosenfeld is a lecturer on Law and Director of the Gender Violence Program at Harvard Law School. She also supervises the Gender Violence Legal Policy Workshop where she works with Harvard law students to develop cutting-edge legal policy initiatives for the U.S. and abroad.
 
Her office is seeking a student to help with web design and other related tasks. Pay is $12/hr, and the time commitment would be no more than 3 hrs/week. If interested, please contact Diane Rosenfeld at rosenfeld at law.harvard.edu.

"Connections" can make your day end on a positive note! You never know who will attend these informal social gatherings. More often than not, our monthly Thursday afternoon get togethers introduce you to people you might otherwise never meet.
 
These once-a-month events with coffee, tea, and sweets continue to offer a way for the League to welcome newcomers and stay in touch with friends during the academic year. Don't hesitate to bring a newcomer or colleague with you for conversation and camaraderie. Come when you can and stay for as long as you wish. We look forward to seeing you.

Khalida Brohi is a social entrepreneur from Pakistan. She received her BA in international relations, sociology, and economics from the University of Karachi in Pakistan. Currently, Khalida is the program manager of Sughar Women, a program of the Participatory Development Initiatives (PDI) that works to engage customs to end customary violence against women in tribal areas of Pakistan by providing socio-economic empowerment to women, and education to tribal leaders and men about the status of women.
 
She is a speaker for Girls Fight Back!, an organization that helps women and girls to lead safe and peaceful lives. She also serves as a presenter for the Climate Reality Project, a non-profit organization of more than 3,000 volunteers personally trained by former US Vice President and Nobel Laureate Al Gore to raise awareness about climate change.

The Futures in Life Science (FILS) Seminar Series is a year-long event series, created in 2011 by Propel Careers, MassBio, and the MassBioEd, to promote the variety of career paths ranging from research and development to marketing and commercialization that exist in the Massachusetts Life Science Industry for individuals with graduate degrees. We believe that the career paths that exist in the Massachusetts Life Science Industry are numerous, exciting, and rewarding and that it is imperative that students considering these careers be well informed regarding the areas that their education and training are relevant.

Maia Weinstock, author of Breaking Brick Stereotypes: LEGO Unveils a Female Scientist, editor and writer specializing in science and children’s media, and Director at BrainPOP will be talking about “Encouraging girls and women in STEM.”
 
She will cover research, as well as examples from various facets of her own experience — whether as a student working toward an undergrad degree in biology, her experiences in science journalism and children’s media, her recent work on women in/on Wikipedia (i.e. both as contributors and subjects of articles), and her LEGO work and research. Get ready to share some of your own experiences!

Daphne has enjoyed a varied career in International Education, working at Valdosta State University, the University of Georgia, Harvard University and Suffolk University. She is very excited to bring her management and leadership development experience with NAFSA: Association of International Educators to JL Boston’s Nominating Council.

The 9th annual Massachusetts Conference for Women will be held December 5, 2013 at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. The one-day event, the largest women's conference in the country, will feature inspirational keynote speakers, skill-building breakout sessions and ample opportunities to develop new relationships with other women leaders. With sessions ranging from personal finance to health and wellness to career advancement, this unique event offers something for everyone.
 
Kerry Washington, accomplished film and stage actress and women’s rights activist, will be a keynote speaker. Washington will address this year’s theme “The Power of Us,” along with other nationally recognized speakers including Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, media executive and bestselling author Cathie Black and leadership advisor and author Erica Ariel Fox. They are among the more than one hundred speakers who will address the Conference.
