You have been offered your dream job. Now you have to negotiate with your
future department/institution for the support you will need to set up your
new laboratory. Professors Troy Littleton and Markus Buehler will discuss
the do's and don'ts of How to Negotiate a Job Offer.

*Dr. Littleton* is Professor in the Dept of Biology, as well as in the Dept
of Brain & Cognitive Sciences at MIT. He received his MD and Ph.D.
from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX and completed his
postdoctoral training at the University of Wisconsin. In 2000, he joined
the faculty of the Department of Biology and the Picower Institute for
Learning and Memory at MIT. Dr. Littleton will talk about how to estimate
what it will take to run your lab.

*Dr. Buehler *is Associate Professor in the Dept of Civil and Environmental
Engineering at MIT, where he directs the Laboratory for Atomistic and
Molecular Mechanics (LAMM). He is the Director of the MIT-Germany Program,
Co-Director of the MIT Computation for Design and Optimization Program, and
leads the Mechanics and Materials Group in the Department of Civil and
Environmental Engineering. He has participated in faculty search committees
and will offer the hiring department's perspective in such negotiations.

*8. Participate in the 2013 MIT Giving Tree (Label pickup until Thurs. Dec.
13)*
*When:* Pick up labels by December 13; Gifts due December 14
*Where:* Label pickup 4-104
*Questions:* mitgivingtree at mit.edu

Pick up gift label(s) from the Public Service Center's 4-104 office
from *Monday,
Nov. 19 through Thursday, Dec. 13. *

You will receive a gift label with the name and/or gender, age, and in most
cases, the gift request of the child. The label will also include the name
of the sponsoring agency. *Do not lose this label!* You will need to secure
it to your gift so that we can make sure it is given to the proper
child. *Please
wrap your gift* (unless otherwise indicated).

*Gift Drop-off Schedule and Locations*

Tuesday, Nov. 20 through Friday, Dec. 14 by 10 a.m.
Public Service Center location at *W20-549* (note the different drop-off
location)
The PSC is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday

If your child did not request a specific gift or you are having trouble
finding a specific gift, please buy a different age-appropriate gift. *The
suggested monetary range for gifts is $15-$25*. While you may be able to
afford more, please remember that most of these children will open their
gifts among one another, at their agencies. It may be difficult for a child
to receive a $15 gift while the child next to her receives a very expensive
gift. Please keep this in mind when making your purchase.

*Please note: we have been asked not to donate violence-themed toys, such
as toy weapons, war figures or war games.*
