*1. **GWAMIT Mentoring Program Mentee Application Open (Applications due

Applications are now open for women graduate students to be mentored by a
female faculty/alum in the GWAMIT Mentoring Program.

Mentorship can be sought in areas ranging from careers to more personal
matters. Grad women mentees are responsible for meeting with their mentor
each month for a minimum of 1 hour and attending a beginning-of-term and
end-of-year dinner. Your commitment to the program would last one semester
at which point you can choose to continue and/or be rematched.

*Want to gain connections with companies and other groups on campus? Have a
passion for creating awesome events that you are interested in? Want to
gain leadership experience being part of GWAMIT’s Executive Board and
working with Event Leads?

There are two open positions for collab events co-chairs.  These positions
involve organizing collaborative events with organizations that contact
GWAMIT and contacting organizations you are interested in.  You and your
co-chair will be the leaders of a team of Event Leads, where together you
will successfully put on awesome events.  These positions require
creativity, organizational skills, and a passion in GWAMIT’s mission.  A
sense of fun helps too!*

Are you interested in helping new graduate students to quickly getting up
to speed on the life, tips, and opportunities around Boston and MIT?  We
pair up mentors (MIT alums or current graduate students) and mentees
(incoming international students) in order to help them settle down
smoothly.


The Mentorship Mixer will take place on Friday, Aug 31 at 6 p.m. in Morss
Hall. There will be international food and cultural performances.

Please read below to find out about the *2012-2013 Graduate Consortium in
Women’s Studies seminars.* These courses are open to graduate students
across disciplines; Masters and PhD students are eligible to apply as well
as advanced undergraduate students doing work in a discipline related
to the course topics.

The application deadline is coming up soon!   The deadline for Fall courses
is August 24, 2012 and students will be notified of the status of their
acceptance a few days after.   Please contact the GCWS for more information.

FALL COURSES:

   - Workshop for Dissertation Writers in Women's and Gender Studies
   - Feminist Inquiry

SPRING COURSES:

   - Motherhood and Mentoring: Theory, Discourse, Practice and Change
   - Gender and Poverty in the United States
   - Gender, Race, and the Complexities of Science and Technology

There is an application process for GCWS courses. Applications are accepted
until the enrollment deadline and are reviewed by the seminar instructors
immediately following.  Students will be notified of their final acceptance
two to three days after the deadline.  Students may apply after the
deadline, pending available space in the class.

Synopsis: London, 1880. Mortimer Granville, a dedicated and
forward-thinking young doctor, is struggling to establish his career. While
Granville preaches sanitation and germ theory, the old guard of doctors
clinging to leeches and hacksaws, scoff at his upstart ideas, and show him
the door. Granville’s fortunes change when he arrives for an interview at
the well-appointed private offices of Dr. Dalrymple, London’s leading
specialist in women’s medicine.

In an age of invention, Dr. Granville set out to find a medical cure for
what ails women...and accidentally electrified our love lives forever.
HYSTERIA is a lighthearted romantic comedy that tells the story of the
birth of the electro-mechanical vibrator at the very peak of Victorian
prudishness.

Each year, we look for volunteers to handle certain tasks at the fair, and
students receive free t-shirts and an opportunity to meet employers on a
more personal basis. This year, we are adding an additional bonus: an
exclusive volunteers-only networking event, which will feature around 100
company representatives and hors d'oeurves/beverages.

Harvard Women in Chemistry is excited to announce the 2nd annual Boston
Women in Chemistry Symposium (Boston WInCS) to be held at Harvard
University on October 6, 2012. The symposium will showcase the excellent
work of female graduate students and post-docs from the greater Boston area
and provide an opportunity for students to meet and mingle with students
from other departments.

Sherri Malouf, President and Master Trainer of Situation Management System,
Inc., developers of the Positive Power and Influence Program, will be
leading the engaging, fun and experiential learning session "Influencing
without Authority.

Sherri is entrepreneurial, a seasoned professional trainer and consultant
with over thirty years of experience. She is highly effective working with
different levels of people in a variety of industries.  Sherri has
delivered training programs and coached individuals in both the public and
private sector in the areas of influence negotiation, leadership and team
building.

During the session, you will:

   -  Participate in an exercise to experience influence energy and learn
   more about the Situational Influence Model.
   -  Practice the different ways to positively influence people.
   -  Learn how to handle unproductive or stressful interactions.

In preparation for the meeting, please think about a challenging influence
situation, as you will apply the influence styles to thinking through how
to deal with this situation more effectively.

The 2013 AWIS Educational Awards support travel for professional
development, broadly defined.  Individuals may request funding to attend a
conference, to acquire specialized training, or to pursue professional
development in other ways that take them from home.

16, 2012 for travel that starts between December 1, 2012 and April 30, 2013.

Scientista is seeking a PR and Marketing intern to attract new members and
readership, secure job postings for the Scientista website and to create
original and engaging content that aligns with the mission and goals of the
Scientista foundation.


RESPONSIBILITES
- Create and post original content on social media platforms to engage users
- Email relevant universities and businesses that would be interested in
Job postings
- Contact media
- Post engaging links to our web content (ie. summer blog series)
- Coordinate online marketing and advertising campaigns to double number of
followers
- Collaborate with the executive team, editorial team, and chapter
directors to design media/marketing campaigns
- Organize staff and campus coordination and community outreach
- Think of *outside of the box* strategies/campaigns to increase reach via
social media (i.e. starting original twitter # hashtag campaigns)
