*1. **GWAMIT Mentoring Program Mentee Application Open (Applications due
Aug. 19) *

Applications are now open for women graduate students to be mentored by a
female faculty/alum in the GWAMIT Mentoring Program.

Mentorship can be sought in areas ranging from careers to more personal
matters. Grad women mentees are responsible for meeting with their mentor
each month for a minimum of 1 hour and attending a beginning-of-term and
end-of-year dinner. Your commitment to the program would last one semester
at which point you can choose to continue and/or be rematched.

Graduate mentee applications submitted through:

limited, so sign up soon!

And, please forward to anyone you think would be interested in
participating.

*Interested in helping women graduate students connect to faculty and
alumni mentors? Mentoring program is now recruiting committee members!

1. What is the Mentoring Program? *

   - A yearlong program: we match mentors and mentees during the summer,
   and groups meet individually every month
   - Three events during the year:  kick-off dinner, spring social,
   end-of-year reception

2. How can I get involved with Mentoring Program Planning Committee?
a) Open positions include:

   - Advertising Lead: Recruit new grad students to the program
   - Event Planning Lead: Plan the two dinners and spring social

b) Committee members are guaranteed participation in the program and have
the chance to choose their mentors*

*Want to gain connections with companies and other groups on campus? Have a
passion for creating awesome events that you are interested in? Want to
gain leadership experience being part of GWAMIT’s Executive Board and
working with Event Leads?

There are two open positions for collab events co-chairs.  These positions
involve organizing collaborative events with organizations that contact
GWAMIT and contacting organizations you are interested in.  You and your
co-chair will be the leaders of a team of Event Leads, where together you
will successfully put on awesome events.  These positions require
creativity, organizational skills, and a passion in GWAMIT’s mission.  A
sense of fun helps too!*

Please join MASS-AWIS for the annual FREE summer picnic. Friends and family
are welcome to attend! Please bring an international food dish to share and
chairs, blankets, and beverages for you and your guests. If you have any
fun lawn games (croquet, Bocce ball, Frisbees, etc.) please bring them with
you! Open to men, women, and children alike.



Public Transportation: Take the MBTA Red Line to the end at Alewife
Station. Come out of the station and walk past the Summer Shack Restaurant
and over the railroad bridge. Turn left into the parking lot of the Fresh
Pond Mall. Walk around the left side next to Staples. Danehy Park is behind
the mall on the left. Once you enter the Danehy parking lot, the dog park
is to the left. Walk past the dog park to the picnic area. Look for the
tables with balloons.

The 2013 AWIS Educational Awards support travel for professional
development, broadly defined.  Individuals may request funding to attend a
conference, to acquire specialized training, or to pursue professional
development in other ways that take them from home.

The next application process will open on August 1, 2012 and close September
16, 2012 for travel that starts between December 1, 2012 and April 30, 2013.

Scientista is seeking a PR and Marketing intern to attract new members and
readership, secure job postings for the Scientista website and to create
original and engaging content that aligns with the mission and goals of the
Scientista foundation.


RESPONSIBILITES
- Create and post original content on social media platforms to engage users
- Email relevant universities and businesses that would be interested in
Job postings
- Contact media
- Post engaging links to our web content (ie. summer blog series)
- Coordinate online marketing and advertising campaigns to double number of
followers
- Collaborate with the executive team, editorial team, and chapter
directors to design media/marketing campaigns
- Organize staff and campus coordination and community outreach
- Think of *outside of the box* strategies/campaigns to increase reach via
social media (i.e. starting original twitter # hashtag campaigns)

*Our ideal candidate:*
* Excellent Communication Skills: Can you generate quality content and
professional emails?
* Solid Writing Skills: Do you pride yourself on your ability to write
catchy and witty blurbs?
* Strong Social Skills: Do you have a strong personal network? Are you able
to generate a "buzz" around what you write?
* Enthusiasm! Are you enthusiastic about marketing and using social media?
* Innovative and creative; able to think outside of the box
* Someone who is addicted to checking their email and facebook. As a
start-up, we regularly work outside the 9-5 hours, and will need to work
hard at a moment's notice.
* Excited to be a part of a close and fun team and to see Scientista grow!

*What you Gain:*
* Develop a strong portfolio that showcases your content, posts, and
statistics for how many new users your campaign has attracted.
* Become an integral part of the Scientista Branding and Marketing team,
which will redefine what it means to be a woman in science!

co-founders and directors of the Scientista Foundation.

REQUIREMENTS
- Already has an existing active presence in social media (ie. twitter,
blogging, facebook pages)
- A regular reader of science, tech news
- Responsible and self-motivated. Since this is a remote position, intern
must be disciplined enough to work on their own and keep to schedules
- Passionate about science, STEM, and increasing diversity/ closing the
gender gap

Pluses:
+ Skilled in Photoshop or Illustrator
+ Know how to create and edit videos

COMMITMENT
Looking for someone to start as soon as possible. End date is flexible.
Hours are flexible.
This is a remote position. Interns can work from anywhere.

COMPENSATION
This is an unpaid Internship.
