Filmmaker Angela Shelton journeys across the United States meeting other
Angela Sheltons in an effort to survey women in America. She discovers that
24 out of 40 Angela Sheltons have been abused just like herself. Then the
filmmaker meets an Angela Shelton who tracks sexual predators and lives in
the same town as the filmmaker's father who molested her and her
stepsiblings for years. The filmmaker's survey of women becomes a journey
of self discovery during which she decides to finally confront her past and
her own father - on Father's Day. The Angela Sheltons complete the journey
by teaching the filmmaker about forgiveness, faith and the power of the
human spirit, no matter what your name is. In all probability, you know
someone who was abused, if you think not, meet the Angela Sheltons.

Discussion with Violence Prevention and Response (VPR) representatives to
follow.

*TRIGGER WARNING: Please be aware that this film includes explicit
descriptions of childhood sexual abuse, rape/sexual assault, and intimate

After three years in prison, Enrique returns home to the Bronx to find the
world he knew has changed. His wife, Angela, struggles to hide an emotional
affair, and his teenage son, Michael, explores a sexual transformation well
beyond Enrique's grasp and understanding.

Unable to accept his child, Enrique clings to his masculine ideals while
Angela attempts to hold the family together by protecting Michael. Still
under the watchful eye of his parole officer, Enrique must become the
father he needs to be or, once again, risk losing his family and freedom.

Can a father's fierce love for his family overcome his street-hardened
ideas about manhood and end the vicious cycle controlling his life?
Writer/director Rashaad Ernesto Green's first feature film is an intricate
portrait of a family divided told with sensitivity, gentle humor, and a
deep understanding of the environment that shapes its people.

Q&A with director Rashaad Green to follow. Cosponsored by: LBGT at mit,
Student Activities Office/ Office of Multicultural Programs, Office of
Minority Education (OME), La Casa and the Gender Fluidity Group

*10. Study on Service Utilization for Survivors of Sexual Violence,
Relationship Abuse, Stalking, or Harassment
Contact: *Kelley Adams at adam at med.mit.edu or (617) 253-1318

This study will examine the service utilization pathways survivors of
sexual violence, relationship abuse, stalking or harassment take following
an incident at the institution. Specifically, I'm interviewing survivors
about what services they have used on and off campus, their experiences
with those services, recommendations for improvement, and on what it's like
to be a survivor of violence or abuse at MIT. The information obtained
through the study will be used to improve services at MIT, and measures
have been built into the study design to ensure participants'
confidentiality.

One of the eligibility criteria is a connection to MIT, but this is
defined loosely: employees, students, post-docs, researchers, spouses of
any of the above, etc. all fall into this category.

perspective and different approach change the direction and kinds of
advances made in science? Anne Harrington from Harvard University will
also be speaking. Other presenters will speak about a woman scientist who
personally inspired them.

Friday 10:00am - 1:00pm
Women Innovators today …
We will hear from women using new technologies and innovations in their
careers. Our keynote speaker is Angela Belcher, the W.M. Keck Professor of
Energy at MIT. Dr. Belcher does innovative research that address many
pressing problems we face today…how to make safe, non-hazardous batteries
that are more energy dense than those currently on the market? How can we
engineer viruses and bacteria to capture excess CO2 and convert it into
building materials? Can we use self-assembly viruses that have been
genetically engineered to provide a safe, cheap alternative for
photovoltaic technology? We will hear from other inspiring women, in
different careers who are taking on the challenges of science and
technology today. The day will also include a panel discussion group.
