Hi Leah and Edwin,

Leah, nice to meet you. Edwin, thank you for looking into things.

It would be great to talk next week. Yao will be away teaching for the
Women's Initiative and Kay will be in clinic, but I could come over to
Microsoft to meet since I'm on campus at MIT.

Thank you,
Jean

Hi Everyone,

Before scheduling, I’d love to synch on the program in greater detail, as we
are hosting a number of Women’s History Month programs at NERD in March. I
just want to make sure we avoid overlap with audience, etc.

Do we have time to have a brief conf call early next week?

Thanks,

Leah

Hi Edwin,

Thank you for your quick reply! Could we reserve the 110 person room from
10am-4pm on the 10th? We'll need to discuss more on other potential dates,
and will let you know soon.

Thanks again!

Best regards,
-Yao

Hi Yao,

Great to hear from you! So it appears that there is a huge conflict on the
10th for the PAX East Region conference – this is a big conference every
year that we started to host annually starting a few years ago… 4p is the
hard stop time. Both the 1st floor conference center and the 10th/11th floor
Commons are booked starting 4p on.. Are there any other potential dates that
would work? I’m adding Leah to this thread as she can give some input for
availability…

Edwin

Hi Edwin,

Thank you for looking into room availability for us!

Can you book the 110 person room on Thursday March 10 for one of the
conference events for us? Is the room not available after 4pm? We're working
on the schedule of right now but it's likely we'll have two events on March
10, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. Could you please help us
check if there is any availability for rooms in the evening?

Also, is the room tiered or flat, and are seats fixed or movable? This info
will give our event leads a better idea for the planning.

Re funding, Jean mentioned that you talked about contributing $1000 (which
may have included catering) for the Feministing panel before, is the funding
still available? We're also having some problem with covering the speaker
fees. We're inviting Dina Goode to be a speaker for the communication
workshop. Are you familiar with her? Dina is a great speaker and has a close
connection with Microsoft. Microsoft hires her to give talks on
communication skills several times each year. She is currently asking for
$2400 to cover the travel and speaker fee. We wonder if there is any
possibility that Microsoft can help cover part of the fee, or if Microsoft
is interested in bringing her to Boston around March 9-11 for another event
and we can combine the travel cost?

Thanks a lot and hope to hear from you soon! :)

Best regards,
-Yao

Can you let me know what type of funding you are looking for? Typically we
can fund a lunch or appetizers around dinner time. Dollars are a bit more
difficult to obtain, but I can try.

As for the space during the week of March 7, it appears the only day
available is Thursday, March 10, 9a-4p. That’s for the 110 person room. The
expandable rooms which would make it 200 capacity is not available. Monday,
March 14 is also available.

Let me know what you think.

Edwin

Hi Edwin,

It would be great if we can use the space for at least one event during the
conference. Will you/MS NERD be interested in funding for any of the events?

Also, the conference date of March 9-11 is tentative, and may subject to
change due to the availability of the keynote speaker. We'll try to keep it
in that week (second week of March), so could you please check availability
during that week?

Thanks a lot. Looking forward to hear back from you soon. :)

-Yao

Dear Edwin,

Hello! My name is Luyao Li, and as Jean Yang introduced, I am one of the
GWAMIT spring conference co-chair. Thank you for being very supportive to
GWAMIT's past events and we really look forward to working together with you
and Microsoft again.

Our current planning for the Spring 2011 Women Empowerment Conference
includes five events:

   - *Keynote.* Speaker candidates are Rachel Maddow, Rachel Simmons,
Deborah Tannen, Robin Chase and Vicky Gibson. The final speaker will be
decided based on availability and the angle of the talk.

     - Event Lead: Open.

   - *Power couple panel:* Invite a panel of couples that are diverse in
professions, age, sexuality, race and culture to share their stories and
opinions on the issues of interest to graduate women/couples.

   - Event Leads: Cathy Lennon, Xuwen Zhu.

   - *Website workshop:* Personal branding through website. The plan is to
have a lecture on principles of professional website design and then
workshop(s) to guide people through starting their own personal website.
       - Event Lead: Shelby Kimmel.

   - *Communications workshop. *Work on personal communication skills in
   the context of the sciences.

     - Event Leads: Kirki Kofiani, Ni Ji.

   - *Modern feminist voices panel.* Panel of women talking about what
feminism (the definition of "equal rights and opportunities for men and
   women") means to them.
       - Event Lead: Julia Robinson-Surry.

Please let us know if there are any funding and collaboration opportunities
on organizing any of the events. Also, does the time frame of March 9-11
works for you?

Looking forward to hearing from you, and we are very excited about future
collaboration opportunities.

Best regards,
-Yao
