1. JOIN THE MIT WOMEN'S INITIATIVE!
Make a DIFFERENCE and go on a FREE TRIP during IAP!
The MIT Women's Initiative is a group that sends pairs of female engineers, both graduate and undergraduate (sophomores and older), from MIT to middle and high schools around the country for a week during IAP. They give presentations about opportunities in engineering, conduct hands-on activities, and encourage high school girls to remain interested in math and science. Previous presenters have been to Washington, Hawaii, Miami, Alaska, and San Francisco, to name a few.

2. The MIT Global Challenge (http://beta-globalchallenge.mit.edu) seeks stories about the ways MIT students are changing the world through invention and entrepreneurship - and how the worldwide MIT community can augment that work through the IDEAS Competition and Global Challenge. Entries should be original works of less than 2 minutes. The winning entry will be featured at the MIT Alumni Leadership Conference October 23. 3. Creating an Effective CV and the Academic Job Search

The CV is used for the academic job search and in some cases for PhD's seeking a research position in other settings. This workshop will cover the important elements of a CV, including strategies for how to showcase your particular knowledge and experiences effectively. We will also discuss some aspects of the academic job search - such as obtaining letters of recommendation. Bring 2 copies of your CV or draft for a peer critiquing exercise.
4. Creating a Job Search Game Plan

Searching for a job is hard work. In fact, it can be the toughest "job" you'll ever have. Your success in the job market is not a function of how many resumes you send out to employers, but more about the time and effort you spend understanding the hiring needs of potential employers, tailoring your written materials to identify those needs, and showcasing how your experiences demonstrate your potential. This session will discuss key strategies for success in today's job market.

6. Job Search Etiquette: Effectively Communicating with Employers

Should I call a prospective employer now or wait a week? Have you ever been confused about what to do next in the job search process? This workshop will outline the job search process and discuss the communication that candidates will have from initial contact with an employer to post interview communication strategies for landing a job.
7. The Art of Behavioral Interviewing
When: Thursday, Sept. 30, 2-3pm

Technical skills will get you the interview; Behavioral attributes will get you the job. This session will discuss preparation and strategies for a successful interview. In addition, sample behavioral interview questions will be provided along with tips on how to answer those tough questions. Discuss ways to distinguish yourself from the competition. This workshop is open to undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni.

This event is open to all undergraduate and graduate students.
