1. [ Mon 9/27] Student Leaders in Service application deadline - $1,132 Education Award

Complete 300 hours of service between October 2010 and September 2011 and receive an AmeriCorps education award of $1,132.  Education awards can be used to pay tuition or to repay most student loans.  Time spent working in a Community Service Work-Study job qualifies for this program.

2. JOIN THE MIT WOMEN'S INITIATIVE!

Make a DIFFERENCE and go on a FREE TRIP during IAP!

The MIT Women's Initiative is a group that sends pairs of female
engineers, both graduate and undergraduate (sophomores and older),
from MIT to middle and high schools around the country for a week
during IAP.  They give presentations about opportunities in
engineering, conduct hands-on activities, and encourage high school
girls to remain interested in math and science. Previous presenters
have been to Washington, Hawaii, Miami, Alaska, and San Francisco, to
name a few.

3. Discussion and Q & A with Gioia De Cari from Truth Values: One Girl’s Romp

through MIT’s Male Math Maze

When: TODAY, Monday, September 20, 3-4 pm

Where: Killian Hall

De Cari received an SM in Mathematics from MIT in 1988.  She currently performs in "Truth Values: One Girl's Romp though MIT's Male Math Maze," an autobiographical solo show in which she reflects with wit and wisdom on her experience at MIT, the world of elite mathematics and the role of women in science.  Join us for a discussion and Q & A with De Cari followed by refreshments and a chance to win tickets to "Truth Values!"

 

4. How to Work a Career Fair (webinar)

When: Tuesday, September 21, 4-5 pm

Many students are overwhelmed when attempting to navigate a career fair with hundreds of employers.  This workshop will provide tips and strategies on how be effective at the Fall Career Fair on Thursday.  You will learn what to do in preparation for the fair, what to do at the fair, and what to do after the fair.  The fair is an excellent opportunity to connect with employers -- create a strategy that will help you in this competitive employment environment!  This workshop is open to undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni.

8. Making Peace with Food Group

Are you struggling with your relationship with food?

Are you thinking about food or weight so much that it’s distracting you from your work or interfering with social events?

“Making Peace with Food and Body Image” is a group where you can get education, support, and practical strategies to manage food and body stress.

Meetings: Fridays from 3:30–5 p.m. at MIT Medical

Facilitators: Zan Barry, Community Wellness at MIT Medical, Audra Bartz, Mental Health
