Clients with more modern Jabber connection code, like Gaim and Adium, can do TLS over port 5222. The iChat instructions on http://itinfo.mit.edu/answer.php?id=8061 appear to be correct, but I'm not sure if it's easy to find them. I'm guessing you adapted your iChat setup from the instructions for Adium. From rar at MIT.EDU Tue Sep 5 12:57:25 2006 From: rar at MIT.EDU (Roger A. I did not know about the instructions for configuring iChat. I used the main jabber page: http://web.mit.edu/ist/services/messaging/jabber.html A link on that page to the FAQ (or whatever it is called), would be useful. I was already using iChat so I felt that was better than downloading something like Adium X and keeping it up to date. I believe at some point, empty chatrooms were getting automatically purged every so often, but I believe that was to deal with the bug in Gaim where chatrooms were created in such a way as to lock out their creators. The Helpdesk (including OLC and Accounts) is looking to move to Jabber for internal communications, and we'd like some chatrooms to correspond to our zephyr classes, however we'd prefer that those chatrooms not get reaped and possibly co-opted by other users. What are our options here? But when I try and login to the jabber account, I get "couldn't connect to host". Host is jabber.mit.edu. Port is 5222, and "Use TLS if available" is checked. I do have kerberos installed, and am able to get to other MIT resources without any problems. I can't figure out why its not finding the server (which I can ping fine). Any other possibilities? tia, Robin Hi Robin, Where did you get Gaim 1.5.0 from? I got it from http://web.mit.edu/software/win.html which has an installer that automatically set up my account. I'm attaching a screenshot that shows the settings for my own MIT jabber account, in case comparing your settings against mine might help. -JacobQuoting Robin Colodzin : > Hello, > I have downloaded Gaim 1.5.0, and installed it.
