[WinPartners] IS&T Recommends That Community Members Wait to Move to Office 2013 for Windows

Microsoft released Office 2013 for Windows on January 29, 2013.

In collaboration with colleagues across campus, Information Services and Technology (IS&T) has begun a release project for Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013 and invites MIT community members  to participate in testing Office 2013.

As of today, Office 2013 Professional Plus is available for download by faculty, staff, and students through MIT's Microsoft Campus Agreement (MSCA).

IS&T Recommendation: Wait
IS&T strongly recommends that members of the MIT community wait to move to Office 2013 on production machines. We are making Office 2013 Professional Plus available now to enable departments, labs, and centers (DLCs) to transition to Office 2013 when they are ready. The timing coincides with Microsoft's release of Office 2013 to the consumer market: IS&T wants to avoid unnecessary purchases of licenses already covered through the MSCA.

How To Obtain
When you are ready to acquire your copy of Office 2013 Professional Plus, visit the MIT Software Download Site at https://nic-too.mit.edu/cgi-bin/msoffice-2013 [certificates<http://ist.mit.edu/certificates> required]. Please keep in mind that IS&T will not be offering support for Office 2013 until March 2013.

Known Issues
At this time, McAfee VirusScan 8.8 does not support Office 2013 and Outlook 2013. According to McAfee, full support will be provided with the release of VSE 8.8 Patch 4, expected during the first half of 2013.
