Join the Windows 7 Release Project

Microsoft is expected to release a new desktop operating system Windows 7 to retail on October 22nd, 2009. In anticipation of this release, Information Services & Technology (IS&T) is kicking off a project to evaluate Windows 7 and would like to invite you to participate. If you are interested in testing Windows 7 or have ideas about how to help the community transition, please contact the Windows 7 Release Team at windows7-release at mit.edu<mailto:windows7-release at mit.edu> .

As with any major new operating system release, Windows 7 will have a significant impact on the MIT community. Since early Spring, IS&T and other members of the MIT community have been testing and documenting findings on the early beta versions of Windows 7. While Windows 7 offers new features and security enhancements that will benefit the community some applications and services do not function as they did with Windows XP Professional. We have identified and tracked some of these compatibility issues and now need your help to test Windows 7 in your environment.

If you want to participate in Windows 7 Release Project please send the following to windows7-release at mit.edu<mailto:windows7-release at mit.edu> :

* your name and title
* your department name
* number of PCs being used
* applications supported
* is it an active directory domain or you have stand alone machines
* is it part of win.mit.edu domain

We would like to emphasize that Windows 7 testers and early adopters should not contact the IS&T Helpdesk at this time for any questions or problems but only report these to the Windows 7 release team windows7-release at mit.edu<mailto:windows7-release at mit.edu> .

Stay tuned for further information on Windows 7.
