[WinPartners] Vista Deployment Resources

Hi everyone,

At last weeks WinPartners meeting, I said I would send out the best of
the resources I had found to help navigate the somewhat circular
documentation that Microsoft has seen fit to provide for Windows Vista
deployment. The main tool for image creation is the Microsoft
Deployment Toolkit or MDT 2008. There are very few text descriptions
for using MDT 2008 and some of the videos are too focused to be
generally useful. The videos still seem to be the best overview of the
process though. The best one is a
http://blogs.technet.com/deploymentguys/. Do a search for video and the
second hit features a Lite Touch deployment. The direct link is
http://blogs.technet.com/deploymentguys/archive/2008/03/13/microsoft-deployment-toolkit-lite-touch-video-walk-through.aspx
but I think their site is worth bookmarking. The Deployment Guys blog
has lots of other good information for those that wish to dig a little
deeper.

There is also a text based walkthrough of how to set up MDT 2008 at
http://blogs.ethz.ch/jlaville/2008/03/21/step-by-step-vista-and-windows-2008-deployment-with-wds-waik-and-mdt/
.

These processes can also be adapted for Windows XP deployment as well.

Good luck,

Tim
