IS&T is pleased to release Kerberos for Windows (KfW) 3.2.2 to the MIT
Community. KfW 3.2.2 is the latest version of Kerberos developed at MIT and
contains a number of useful new features mentioned below.
Who Should Install and Why
---------------------------------------------------
- Windows users who need to access kerberized services.
- Users of KfW 2.6.5 or KfW 3.2.1.
KfW 3.2.2 will behave correctly from Oct. 28 2007 onward, when versions
2.6.5 and 3.2.1 will handle daylight saving time incorrectly under certain
circumstances.
NOTE: If you are supported by a local IT professional, check with them
before installing KfW 3.2.2.
Notable Features
---------------------------------------------------
- New and improved graphical user interface - Network Identity Manager (NIM)
- Support for Vista
- Clients are prompted for Kerberos passwords for all GSSAPI applications
with a common NIM password dialog
- Kerberos v5 library version 1.6.3
For a complete list of new features, see
http://web.mit.edu/kerberos/kfw-3.2/kfw-3.2.2/relnotes.html.
Known Issues
----------------------------------------------------
You may need to left-click twice on the Network Identity Manager (NIM) icon
in the Notifications tray to get the NIM window to open.
If you have multiple identities, you will not be able to remove an identity
completely until the Network Identity Manager (NIM) is restarted. Without
restarting KfW, the deleted identity is still visible in the NIM, if View >
All identities is checked. For details, see
http://itinfo.mit.edu/article.php?id=8502.
System Requirements
-----------------------------------------------------
Kerberos for Windows 3.2.2 is supported only on Windows XP and Vista.
KfW 3.2.2 will function on other 32 bit versions of Windows as well. For
information on running KfW 3.2.2 on these older and unsupported operating
systems, see the KfW 3.2.2 Release Notes in the documentation provided
below.
KfW is designed to work in either of two modes on Vista:
1) With UAC disabled. NB: It is not recommended that users disable UAC.
If you think you must, consult your local IT professional first.
2) With UAC enabled and users do not have administrator privileges. In this
case, there must be a separate Administrator account and users must
authenticate as this Administrator at the UAC prompt.
