[WinPartners] Primary Partition vs Simple Volume

I put a second drive on a not-so-powerful computer (Celeron- XP) just for storage. In formatting the drive I was offered the choice of "Primary Partition vs Simple Volume".  I chose Simple Volume just for the heck of it. It seems to be taking kind of a long time to format. Any good reason for this? Did I make the wrong choice?
