[WinPartners] what is a good program to remove spyware

I just got a message for the first time upon starting up my winxp 
machine, that Motive Smartbridge update are available for download.  I 
did some research on the web about this and read some advice to run 
msconfig to remove the executable from startup.  It turns out it's part 
of Verizon's DSL package that I have.  I also read that it would be a 
good idea to get rid of what of this Motive SB software is already 
there, and to use spyware removal to do this.  What's your opinion on this?
