Bridgewater State University Department of Theatre Position Opening:
Part-Time Instructor to Teach Two Classes in Technical Theater/Scenic
Construction
1. Work with student and faculty scenic designers on faithful rendering of
creative design ideas.
2. Manage the construction, painting, and installation of all scenic
elements for BSU Theatre Department Productions.

Supervise students in the implementation of all scenic elements.
2.
Provide safety training and a safe work environment for student workers.
3.
Manage/maintain the Theatre Department’s collection of production
furniture and
prop items.
6. Coordinate with Theatre Department Faculty/Technical Director and
Auditorium Technical Director on matters regarding scheduling, scenic
construction, lighting installation, sound installation, and
performer/staff safety.

Purchase construction materials and shop supplies needed for scenic
construction.
2.
Be available for evening and weekend rehearsals/work related to the
production
schedule.
9. Be comfortable with and able to handle dirty work and heavy lifting of
materials and equipment, sometimes in excess of 50 lbs.
10. Each course is an average of 9 hrs/week (18 hrs/week for the two
courses together) for 14 weeks, but actual distribution of hours may vary
according to production schedule needs.

The Department of Theatre at Bridgewater State University seeks a qualified
and committed instructor to teach scene shop practicum courses to support
departmental production work for two productions each semester (one course
for each production).

- The ability to use technology effectively in teaching and learning.
- The ability to provide quality teaching including related preparation and
grading. - The ability to provide class syllabi to students enrolled in
classes and to the department office as requested.
- The ability to perform other related duties as assigned and/or required.
Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree

Scene shop experience

Weekend and evening availability around production schedule
Preferred Qualifications:

MFA in Design/Technology

2+ years of professional scene shop experience

Theatrical Design/Technology Teaching Experience

Scene Shop leadership experience
