ABOUT THE EVENT :

The IALD New England Chapter is proud to announce IALD LIGHTNIGHTR at the
WaterFire event in Providence, RI USA on 28 September. Cocktails and hors
d'oeuvres will be served at Speakeasy under the 121 Room at Local 121 from
4:30 PM - 7:30 PM. True to their name, Local 121 is known for using local
artists for all their dinnerwares and local farmers for fresh seasonal
menus. All attendees will have the opportunity to walk the river and
experience the romance, art and music that encompasses the surroundings.

ABOUT WATERFIRE :

WaterFire is an award-winning art and light experience created by Barnaby
Evans of Providence, RI USA. At sunset, WaterFire torch holders slowly and
silently float down the river, lighting the basins one by one. The
sculptured fire basins have been installed on three rivers to light up
Waterplace Park in downtown Providence and represent the Renaissance culture
within the city. There will be live music by the Latin Heartbeat Orchestra,
dancing lessons, street artists, live bands and much more. For more

ABOUT THE SPEAKER : 

J. Michael Abbott, AIA, CNU-A, APA is a Partner at Northeast Collaborative

and brings over 30 years of experience to the firm. His leadership has been
marked by an abiding interest in historic preservation and adaptive reuse
projects. His diverse experience includes working with many buildings listed
on the National Register; adaptive reuse studies that incorporate new uses
into old structures; and historic research that has led to the
reconstruction of missing historic elements and structures. 

Michael obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Design and a
M.Arch from Miami University. Michael is a past President of the AIA/RI
Chapter. He is Chairman of the Exeter, Rhode Island Planning Board and
former Chairman of the Exeter Zoning Board of Review. Michael has been
selected to speak about New Urbanism and adaptive reuse at many conferences,
including the American Planning Association Conference and Traditional
Building Conference.
