[Usittne] Trip Lips

Our local theater, Highfield Theatre, had a visit from OSHA several years ago after a power saw
accident in the shop. They made us add railings on some catwalks and install a guard on the saw.
Nothing said at all about the stage apron edge which is 4 ft to concrete in the pit.

Falmouth High school recently completed a major renovation which included renovations to the
auditorium. Since it's a public building, I'd assume all codes were complied with - they certainly
made the catwalks almost impossible to use. The stage is 24" high to carpeted concrete at the
apron. No stage lip, lights, or any other fall prevention devices were installed. Plenty of LED
aisle lights were installed, some of which have already failed after about 2 years of use.

Sounds like the consultant is a bit gung ho and may not be familiar with performance venues.

I'd ask your consultant to show you the relevant passage, and any references to past OSHA rulings regarding the edges of performance areas.
