Assistant Professor of Set and Lighting Design

The Department of Performing Arts at the University of Massachusetts Boston invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the assistant professor level in the area of set and lighting design, beginning September 1, 2011. We seek an exceptional individual who can design and implement set and lighting for 3-4 mainstage shows annually as well as teach courses in design and technical theatre. The successful candidate will serve as the Technical Director to the theatre program and provide leadership in design to a small but dedicated faculty that includes two other full-time professors and several outstanding adjuncts. The ability to educate, organize, and mobilize student workers is essential to the position. Planning is underway for a new theatre; the candidate can look forward to working in a new performance space. The Department of Performing Arts offers B.A. degrees in Theatre Arts and Music, a minor in Dance, and a Music Teacher Licensure program.

An MFA or other terminal degree is required at the time of appointment, so candidates must have a firm completion date to be considered. Continuing excellence in teaching, creative/scholarly activity, and service is expected in order to qualify for reappointment, tenure, and promotion.
