Thanks for the suggestions, all.  Waldo Brothers came up roses - their customer service could not have been better.  We picked up 22  2x8 sheets ranging in thickness 1" - 2".  20 of them discounted 60% on account of corners rounded and some minor dents, the other 2 were comp.  They said it has been sitting for close to 7 years, and the sheets had plenty of filth to back up that claim. Price for the 2" sheets were $8.67, 1 1/2" were about $7 - I spent a total of $82.
