Next year’s KCACTF is in Fitchburg/Leominster, MA from January 29th to February 3rd, 2008. Please come help us make it the best one ever.
SAVE THE DATE!
Upcoming goals:
a. Would like to get more faculty to display their design and tech work. If you are planning to come and would like to display, contact John Devlin (jdevlin at smcvt.edu) to confirm your space.
b. There were 30 design & technical workshops in all and workshops are already underway for next year. If you want to help out you will receive your registration for free to the festival and have a lovely thank-you letter for your participation to put in your college file or show to your industry boss. Please contact Crystal Tiala (tiala at bc.edu) to present your ideas or offer to volunteer. Already in the planning stages for next year:
· USITT New England section meeting hopefully including national representation
· Kip Shawger: Design and other jobs on cruise ships
· Brian Hapcic: photographing the lighting design in productions
· William Kenyon: the ethics of digital manipulation of portfolio pictures
· Orestes Mihaly and Chase Rozelle: scenic automation
· Stuart Duke: another facet of moving lights
· Gretel Geist: working on another costume workshop
· Barbizon, Mike Abdow: LED lighting
· Rosco, Bryan Steele: Scenic Textures, a practicum

· “I got my degree, now what?” – what to expect and what to do next. Summer theaters, interships, graduate schools (needs volunteers for panelists)
· ALPS: TBD
c. I could really use some stage management workshops. I would also welcome management and marketing.
d. Saturday will be an interviewing/audition day for grad schools, summer jobs and internships. Schools, theaters and industry are invited to come and interview for the price of registration or free if you come and present a workshop of some type.

News from the Regional Officer’s meeting
We can apply for some funding. Have requests to Crystal Tiala by August for upcoming ideas. Must include overall budget and plan.
The 50th anniversary for USITT is coming up. Sections may be asked to “bring a piece of the cake”, whatever that means.
We were asked to pick an event that we would most like a national officer to participate in and what we would like that officer to do.
We felt the officer should come to KCACTF and do a workshop on membership for all festival goers.
Meet with our section and consider holding future conferences in New England
We were told that we could send our top student designers to the next national conference and have their conference fees paid for. This is a one time only deal. I am clarifying the details on this offer and Rafael Jaen will spearhead the effort with Arthur Dirks to make the student picks.
In the officers meeting for regional sections, there has been a lengthy discussion on who should deal with membership dues. This is the contuation of a discussion the officers have been having for years. Most sections feel we should make regional membership an option when they register for national. It causes some accounting difficulties which are lengthy to explain. This idea will be ongoing as we get questions answered. In the meantime, we have agreed to direct those who sign up to the section website and make it clear that sections are separate and independent and to be a member takes separate dues.

New Business
_
Save the date: The annual New England BBQ will be held in the afternoon of September 8th, 2007.

Visiting Local Theaters: Mike Katz and Karen Perlow have volunteered to spearhead arranging visiting local university or professional theaters in our area. They will keep us posted on the progress.
_
Software workshops: We agreed that each summer we should arrange a workshop around some software that people would like to learn.
 _
Vectorworks: Crystal Tiala and John Forbes are going to arrange aVectorworks workshop at the facilities in Boston near the end of the summer. Stay tuned for details.
