Subject: [Usittne] Tour the New Williams College Theaters

Special USITTNE Event Please RSVP if you plan on attending

On October 15th 2006 Cosmo Catalano, Technical Supervisor of the '62 Center for Theatre and Dance, will lead a tour of the new '62 Center for Theatre and Dance theater complex at Williams College. We will start at 1pm. The theater designed by William Rawn is a Merit winner of the USITT architecture awards. Cosmo was involved full time in the design and construction of the building so we will have unique insights on the process from one of our own members.
http://www.williams.edu/go/62center/ for more info on the space and driving instructions etc.

Schedule (Subject to change for no good reason except that it might just happen if it does)
  1:00 PM
Informal background discussion on the theater, the program, Cosmo's position in the planning and execution of the project and the roles of the other players, the architect and the consultants. Bring your bag lunch, We will supply the drinks.
  1:45 PM
A Hands on tour of the project from grid to trap room and everywhere in between. Questioning encouraged! (as if we had to say that with this group) Come dressed to explore, not to look good.
  3:45 PM
  Wrap up and goodbye

It should also be prime leaf peeping season., so plan on converging in Williamstown in on October 15 for an exploration of the new theaters and a chance to get together and have a great time with friends & colleagues.
The leaf peepers are likely to be out in force so give yourself extra time to get to Williamstown.
Please let us know soon if you are planning to come (including friends & students) just so we have an idea of how many drinks are needed and how to structure the tour.

  Directions:
From Boston, take the Mass Pike west to Exit 2 (Lee). Take Rts 7&20 North towards Pittsfield. In Pittsfield, continue on Rt 7 north towards Williamstown. In Williamstown continue north on Rt 7 through the traffic circle. Leaving the traffic circle, continue down the hill, you will see the parking garage on the right. Just past the garage, turn right on Whitman St. Take the first right, continue right onto the garage's upper deck. Park anywhere. Enter through doors under the big glass dance studio. Come up the steps to the main lobby.

Using Rt 2 West, go through North Adams to Williamstown. At the junction with Rt 7, turn right onto Rt 7 north. Continue down the hill, you will see the parking garage on the right. Just past the garage, turn right on Whitman St. Take the first right, continue right onto the garage's upper deck. Park anywhere. Enter through doors under the big glass dance studio. Come up the steps to the main lobby.

  >From Northampton, take Rt 9 to Rt 8A in Savoy. Take 8A to Rt 116 (watch your speed here). Rt 116 to Adams. Rt 8 to Rt 2 West in North Adams (there's some tricky turns under the highway in North Adams). Go through North Adams to Williamstown.
Alternatively, take 91 north to Rt 2 in Greenfield, and follow Rt 2 West.
