TECHNICAL SUPERVISOR
FOR THE ROBSHAM THEATER ARTS CENTER
Scope
The Technical Supervisor is the supervisor in charge of the scenery shop and control booths for all production activities. This is a full time nine month position.
Reporting Relationship
Assistant Director, Production Services
Essential Functions
⢠Provide direct supervision of the following staff:
Stage Carpenter
Props/paint technician
⢠Schedule and provide direct supervision of the following student staff:
Five Student carpenters
⢠The Technical Supervisor is responsible for the following areas of production planning and implementation:
Planning for the safe efficient use of the scenery shop to complete the setting and props for the in a timely professional manner. The Technical Supervisor is the final authority as to the technical feasibility of all designs and other technical plans in terms of resources available (time, space, production budget, and personnel) proposed for activities to be staged in the Robsham Theater Arts Center. This responsibility requires a careful review of all such plans and an active input into the design process. It is the responsibility of the Technical Supervisor, in association with the other professional staff, to determine the feasibility of the designs in light of the capabilities of the Robsham Theater staff and facilities, and make recommendations and suggestions accordingly.
Budgeting the funds available for the setting and props to best realize the production as planned. This will involve evaluating the designs in terms of their feasibility in light of the available recourses.
Supervising the construction of the setting and props to insure the safe efficient use of the scenery shop and all related spaces
⢠The Technical Supervisor will train/teach students the proper use of theater equipment and facilities in order to provide an educational experience for the students.
⢠When necessary, the Technical Supervisor will be asked to assist the Assistant Director, Production Services, in other areas of production support in order to promote the overall efficiency of the RTAC operations.
⢠In the absence of the Director and Assistant Director, the Technical Supervisor will deal with questions of policy and procedure and act as the University's representative with groups using the facility so that the orderly and efficient flow of information is assured.
⢠The Technical Supervisor will also be expected to attend all Theater Staff meetings, production meetings, play selection meetings, Theater Department meetings, and any meeting where the Technical Supervisorâs involvement would insure the safe and proper use of the scenery shop and related equipment.
⢠The Technical Director Supervisor will also be expected to participate in personnel development projects such as seminars, workshops, conferences, etc.
⢠The Technical Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of all technical crews regardless of whether the crew is made up of Elements of Theater production Laboratory students, volunteers, or paid technicians.
Note: Questions relating to the artistic nature of the design are the responsibility of the Production Director and the designers. It should be noted, however, that in questions of the technical feasibility of any activity that involves the Robsham Theater, the Technical Director Supervisor is the final authority.
