KCACTF Region I
The growth in the Design and Technologies has been growing significantly. I encourage all schools who are not currently attending to reconsider their participation.
The ways you can participate
Any person can register and attend the workshops, visit the design exposition and see the 6 to 7 shows all for the low price of 50 dollars for the entire event. Last years program can be seen at www.kcactf1.org if you want an idea of the programming available. 2007 will be even bigger and better.
Any show from your school can be entered at an Associate or Participating level. This means that a respondent will come to the show and provide feedback. Also, 2 actors and all student designers from that show will be eligible to compete for national awards. Participating shows may be chosen to be taken in their entirety to the regional festival.
Students may also enter for regional only award. They must sign up but the only cost is their registration to the event. These may be produced shows that are not competing as associates or participating or may also be class projects.
USITT NE sponsors a tech Olympics with a 50 dollar first place cash prize. Any student my sign up to participate as long as they are registered at the festival.
There is also a regional prize for Technology/Craftsmanship and the first prize is a USITT membership and USITT publication purchase.
So get involved.
Some ideas that people wanted to see at the next festival:
Cad drafting with touch pad technology
Software for designing
Vacu-form
Maybe get Mystic scenic, PRG or other large shops to provide talks
Casting and molding
Safety and ventilation
Wicked design exhibit (or other show?)
Big name designers giving talks
Scenic automation
Portable rigging automation
Hydrolics
Props design
Props design processes that involve directors
How lighting effects color on stage, particularly costumes and make-up
Why should I go to Graduate school and how do I get there?
More ideas and volunteers are always welcome. If you have ideas on who we should try to bring in, please let me know.
News from the Regional Officers retreat
In the officers meeting for regional sections, there has been a lengthy discussion on who should deal with membership dues. There are some proposals afoot and if you feel strongly about this issue, please send me your comments. (tiala at bc.edu)
We could keep the system the same and mail in membership to our secretary/treasurer.
We could make regional membership an option when we register nationally.
We could make regional membership automatic and mandatory when we register for national.
Sincerely,
Your Chair....
