Two Years In The Making! After nearly two years
of exchanging phone calls and e-mails with the
IMAX Corporation, your SMPTE-New England Section
is extremely pleased to bring you this special
Saturday morning technical presentation & film
screening at the new Jordan's Furniture Comcast
IMAX 3-D Theater in Reading, MA.
Everyone is Welcome - You do not need to be an SMPTE member to attend.
Scheduled to present is IMAX Corporation's Senior
Vice President of Technology, Mr. Brian Bonnick,
PE.
Brian will begin by taking us back in time to how
IMAX began more than 30 years ago and finish with
their most recent achievements. All the way from
the first IMAX® projector made with the help of a
miniature bicycle chain, to a later prototype
built by Ron Jones and made to work at 18
frames/sec using a vacuum cleaner and an orange
juice can, to IMAX's current technical
achievements and introduction of IMAX® MPX - a
new, lower cost projection system that can easily
be retrofitted into an existing multiplex setting.
You'll also learn about the revolutionary IMAX
DMR® digital remastering software, which allows
movie-goers to experience the larger-than-life
adventure, drama and emotion of their favorite
Hollywood films in IMAX theatres. To date, these
films include Apollo 13, Star Wars: Episode II
Attack of the Clones, The Matrix Reloaded, The
Matrix Revolutions, Harry Potter and the Prisoner
of Azkaban and Spider-Man 2.
In November 2004, IMAX and Warner Bros. Pictures
made cinematic history with the release of the
world's first Hollywood event film converted into
IMAX® 3D - The Polar Express: An IMAX 3D
Experience. Shattering box office records
worldwide, The Polar Express: An IMAX 3D
Experience became the fastest and highest
grossing digitally re-mastered IMAX release.
Finally, you'll learn about our digital sound
systems and how IMAX 3D works.
Join us after the presentation for a public
screening of one of the current features being
shown at the Comcast IMAX 3D Theatre. The
feature scheduled to be shown will be announced
in our next SMPTE/New England e-mail.
{If we are lucky, it will be "Magnificent
Desolation: Walking On The Moon" (3D) which
premieres the day before our meeting. More
information about "Magnificent Desolation" can be
found at:
