From shekhar at MIT.EDU Wed Mar 28 21:39:36 2007 From: shekhar at MIT.EDU (Shekhar Krishnan) Date: Wed, 28 Mar 2007 21:39:36 -0400 Subject: [Urban-Media] 12 May Workshop in Boston/Cambridge Message-ID: <1175132376.31799.127.camel@nowhereman> All: As we have discussed, we would like to hold a one-day meeting to bring together urban historians and anthropologists of Middle East and South Asia to present and discuss their work and methods. This would also bring together many of the discussions and themes which we have had over the spring and fall of 2006 at MIT. A recap of the papers presented is on: http://urban.media.mit.edu/wiki/Spring_2006_Sessions http://urban.media.mit.edu/wiki/Fall_2006_Sessions We have agreed that the best date for this workshop is SATURDAY 12 MAY 2007 in the Cambridge/Boston area. We will either hold this at MIT or Wellesley College, depending on where we get support. We will offer no funds to anyone, only the opportunity to come down and meet fellow scholars and share your work. This will not be a public event, but there may be some visitors from Harvard and MIT. Below is a list of the people who are now subscribed to this list, including members of our seminar at MIT, and other correspondents. While not everyone on this list will come, we already have commitments from several people. Depending on how many presentations we have, we could do three sessions in one day (10.30 to 12.00, 13.30 to 15.00 and 15.30 to 17.00) followed by drinks and dinner in Cambridge. So if you are ready to come and make this workshop happen on Saturday 12 May, please send a mail to this list with your presentation topic as soon as possible. Please be prepared to pre-circulate your short paper or presentation by the end of April. Thanks, S.K. -- * Michael M.J.
