Dear Colleague,
[We inadvertently left out a meeting time on the first posting. Apologies
for the oversight.]
The Unix-users group will be having a meeting on Thursday January 15th,
2004 from 1:30 PM until approx. 3:00 PM at the Mezzanine Lounge in W20.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the future of Linux on campus
from the perspective of plans for IS&T support.
IS&T is currently in the process of entering a contract with RedHat Inc.
for the distribution of RedHat Network. It is crucial for us to get
feedback from Linux users on campus regarding need and perceived benefit
of such a program. For example, a blanket site license might cost a
certain dollar amount, but the cash layout may exceed a limited access
license for a set count of computers.
We urge your attendance and/or participation. If you cannot attend (and we
apologize for the short notice), please send your thoughts to
blang at mit.edu for inclusion in the discussion.
There will be a short discussion of the existing RedHat Linux update proxy
server that is currently running on MITnet.
Regards,
rml
