Please note: The first group will leave from MIT as soon as the safety lecture is over. All other groups will have to make their own way to the Alewife T station. We will run shuttles from there to the airfield. Please plan on getting to the Alewife station at least 45 minutes before your scheduled flight time so there is sufficient time to get you there. For example, the group that signs up for the 2:30 time-slot should plan to be at Alewife by 1:45. We'll be running shuttles approximately every 15 minutes, but you should be prepared to wait at both ends... we'll do the best we can with the transportation. -Carl From howiek at MIT.EDU Mon May 3 15:42:26 2004 From: howiek at MIT.EDU (Howard Kleinwaks) Date: Mon, 3 May 2004 15:42:26 -0400 Subject: [Unified-mailman] 3rd Annual Unified Students vs Staff Whiffle Ball Game Message-ID: Everybody, The third annual students vs staff whiffle ball game will take place this Friday, May 7 at 2pm in front of building 33. P1 solutions don't answer the question (y-force on the vanes). The force solved for in the solutions is the y-force on the mass in the control volume (down -- which you can see by inspection since the flow is pushed in that direction). So the y-force on the vanes (what the problem asked for) is equal and opposite to this: up. Sorry for not catching this. - Ian >Professor, > >Please explain why the force in P1 part d) is negative when the vanes >are pushing downwards on the flow implying that the flow is pushing >upwards on the vanes. > >Just as you showed in recitation today, shouldn't the force on the vanes >be away from the center of curvature of the vanes? ie towards the 1st xy >quadrant? > >Ryan -- ******************************************************************* M A S S A C H U S E T T S I N S T I T U T E O F T E C H N O L O G Y Ian A.
