TL;DR: The UA sends representatives to Institute Committees to vouch for the undergraduates when big decisions are made across MIT. Undergraduate representatives have influence in a variety of decisions ranging from DAPER oversight to Campus Planning, and ensure the undergraduates' perspectives are always heard. To apply for these important and influential roles, go to tinyurl.com/2023IC by noon July 10th. For information on recruiting committees: ua.mit.edu/recruitment2023.

Fellow undergrads,

Now is your chance to have a tangible impact on the Institute you call home - by working as an Institute Committee (IC) undergraduate representative. Applications to serve are now open until noon July 10th at tinyurl.com/2023IC.

What is an Institute Committee?

ICs (see ua.mit.edu/institutecomms) are groups of people at MIT that work together on policy for the Institute. They are made up of faculty, staff, undergraduates, graduates, and postdocs. They are often specific to a department or specific aspect of MIT, but some are more general. As a result, committees’ purposes vary greatly: One committee might meet with President Kornbluth about the Institute as a whole while another might meet with admissions and SFS about financial aid awards for the coming year. Decisions made by these committees impact everyone on campus.

The UA has the opportunity to send undergraduate representatives to these committees. These representatives advocate for the undergraduates and ensure the undergrad perspective is considered during the policy making process. They share equal status on the committees with all other members, and their opinions are taken seriously. As a result, they have real influence over the MIT community's day to day.
