MIT Leadership Capstone Program

SENIORS: Apply for the Leadership Capstone Program!

The Leadership Capstone Program is a semester-long program designed to equip undergraduate students in their final semester at MIT with the mindset and skillset necessary for them to succeed in their leadership experiences post-graduation.

Members of the Leadership Capstone Program will meet weekly to engage in activities, discussion, and reflection centered around their leadership experiences, development, and post-grad aspirations. The style of this program is both social and seminar, aiming to gather senior students together in a supportive, connected cohort where they can make meaning of their undergraduate leadership experiences, gain new leadership skills and strategies to navigate post-grad roles and responsibilities, and prepare to transition from college to career and from campus to community.

Apply now at tinyurl.com/LCP23

Should you have any questions, please contact Katherine Waxstein, Director of Student Leadership Development, at waxstein at mit.edu<mailto:waxstein at mit.edu>.”

SERC Future of Computing Prize
The Social and Ethical Responsibilities of Computing (SERC) within the MIT Schwarzman College of Computing, has launched a new prize competition for MIT students. In no more than 3,000 words, tell us how you think advances in computing will transform human society. The winning entry will be awarded a $10K prize. In addition, two runner-ups will be awarded $5K and ten honorable mentions will win $500 each. To help students prepare their entries ahead of the submission deadline (Feb. 28), we're hosting a series of workshops during IAP, 1:1 meetings with SERC postdocs, and sponsoring up to 30 UROPs (up to $2K stipend) for undergraduates to develop and refine their ideas. Visit computing.mit.edu/futurecomputingprize<about:blankcomputing.mit.edu/futurecomputingprize> for full details.

MIT Climate Clock Survey
The first city to display a climate clock, was N.Y. City, beginning in Sept. 2020 (at the request of Greta Thunberg!) Since then, there have been several other urban climate clocks in Glasgow, Seoul, Paris and Berlin. We believe the MIT Climate Clock is the first University climate clock in the world. Our mission is to educate students and the general public and we would like to spread climate clocks around the USA and the world.

The MIT Climate Clock is a D-Lab project. Our team has been projecting our climate clock on different faces of the Green Building (54) at night for short-term time periods with permission from the MIT Administration since Earth Day 2021. We are not a hack, because have we always wanted this projection to be long-term. The MIT Climate Nucleus, responsible for making that decision, is not opposed to the idea, but would like to see MIT community-wide input to the process, not just follow ideas of one small team. We agree! Specifically, the Climate Nucleus is interested in whether or not a “Deadline” is helpful or not to the climate change message, and if not, what should be the main climate message? To that end, our MIT Climate Clock team has come up with a 3-4 minute survey with this QR code.

We greatly appreciate your taking the survey and sharing your thoughts!

Food Security and Financial Resources
Life as a student can be expensive and navigating the different resources can be challenging. It doesn’t matter who you are; not being able to access enough food to sustain an active healthy lifestyle is an issue that you shouldn’t have to face. If you are a student and are not able to access enough food, these food resources at MIT may be able to help. https://doingwell.mit.edu/foodandfinancial/<https://us16.mailchimp.com/mctx/clicks?url=https%3A%2F%2Fdoingwell.mit.edu%2Ffoodandfinancial%2F&xid=97edff825d&uid=81007902&iid=38765931f0&pool=cts&v=2&c=1673990358&h=1adc3c4c7c41bd1520dc3020d5b568b0303294bdfabcab227ae640de361656a2>
