Content Warning: Sexual Assault
tl;dr: April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Read below to learn more about various advocacy events at MIT this month as well as support resources for survivors and those who may need it. Come to UA WellComm and VPR SAAM Lobby 10 tabling 4/4 and 4/5 from 11AM-2PM to answer prompts about sexual assault and supporting others at MIT.
Dear Undergraduate Students,
In April we observe Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Sexual harassment, assault, and abuse are present issues of which we can raise awareness and build a support network to help prevent further instances of sexual assault on our campus. Each year, the UA Student Support & Wellness Committee provides programming for sexual assault awareness in addition to working with other organizations and communities on campus in their own sexual assault advocacy efforts.
We will be tabling on Monday (4/4) and Tuesday (4/5) from 11AM-2PM in Lobby 10. We will have prompts such as “To build a safer MIT I…” and “It’s 2022 (and/but)...” that people can answer while keeping SAAM in mind. We will be taking photos of those who are comfortable sharing their responses to our WellComm Instagram. We would love for you to stop by and chat!
Organizations such as the UA, VPR, Pleasure at MIT, MIT Monologues, and WGS department at MIT will be hosting various events throughout the month, such as WellComm and VPR tabling in Lobby 10 on 4/4 and 4/5, VPR Denim Day 4/27, MIT Monologue's SAAM Slam 4/29, Pleasure & WGS Trauma-Informed Yoga, and more. See the email from VPR about some other upcoming SAAM events. Stop by these events to hear more about SAAM, show support for survivors, and learn ways in which you can get involved on campus.
We acknowledge that sexual assault is a heavy topic, and that SAAM can carry great emotional distress for some. We want to highlight the several support resources that MIT offers for cases of sexual assault or support for survivors:
VPR confidential helpline: 617-253-2300
