Hello Undergrads,
I hope you are having a safe and restful break. The UA is looking forward to making next semester the best it can be and we need YOUR help to do so.
Over the summer, innovative student ideas like the Summer Pods Pilot<https://www.instagram.com/p/CDaBXSmHrf3/?igshid=pri6zketuzyl> opened the door for allowing group socialization in dorms for the Fall. We look forward to encouraging the exploration of more ideas to improve campus and are excited to work with MIT administrators to turn those ideas into reality.
>From January 8th to the 10th, we will be hosting MIT COVID Hack<http://ua.mit.edu/covid-hack> (sign up!)<https://tinyurl.com/mitcovidhack2021>, where students will form teams to ideate solutions to this past semester's biggest challenges, with the opportunity for your solution to be brought to life by MIT offices and administrators this spring. The event is open to all undergrads and no technical or policy expertise is required. You will have the opportunity to form teams with up to three fellow MIT students to craft a solution for one of four tracks.

MIT COVID Hack Tracks:
1. Designing Outdoor Spaces: What do you want campus to look like in the spring? Identify and develop spaces for students to safely socialize outdoors during the Cambridge winter.
2. Reimagining Virtual Communities: Getting tired of Zoom parties and awkward breakout rooms? Rethink online socialization with innovative methods to meet new people and hang out with friends virtually.
3. Improving the Remote Learning Experience: We know that Zoom classes are far from perfect, so how can we make the most of an online learning experience? Create technology or policy that improves remote learning in the Spring.
4. Connecting Students and Policies: Due to COVID-19, campus policies are constantly changing and it can be hard to stay updated as a student. Design strategies and tools to improve communication and compliance.
Solutions can range from typical hackathon web apps to proposals for MIT policy. You will be supported through the proposal drafting process by experts in policy work at MIT and COVID-19. All proposals will be presented to a panel with relevant administrators as judges who will implement winning solutions on campus this spring!
