Hi Undergrads,

tl;dr: Included is the executive summary and transcript of the October

[1] Two Student Committees

Working alongside the two committees to examine MIT’s outside engagements
<http://news.mit.edu/2019/two-committees-examine-mit-outside-engagements-1015>,
the UA and GSC are forming a Student Committee on Guidelines for Outside
Engagements. Outside engagements include grants, gifts, and any other
associations and collaborations involving MIT with governments,
corporations, foundations, or private individuals, domestic or foreign.

Additionally, in response to concerns raised at the Student Forum as well
as the results of the AAU Sexual Misconduct Survey, the UA and GSC are
forming a Student Committee on Campus Climate and Policies around
Discrimination and Misconduct.

Each committee will comprise of twelve members: six undergraduate students
to be convened by the UA and six graduate students by the GSC. The charges
of both committees are included in this email. Both charges include proposing
mechanisms for reviewing the status of implementation of each committee’s
recommendations, and engaging the greater community throughout the process.
Both committees are expected to release their reports in Spring 2020.

Applications for committee membership are due by this Saturday, November
2nd at 10am: https://forms.gle/sLcv5qBkAGrQZeos8. You may apply for one or
both committees.

The selection process for undergraduate membership of both committees will
run separately, but in parallel, and will be determined as follows:

   1.

An open call for membership via online application: Tues Oct 29th - Sat
   Nov 2nd
   2.

Interview process by the UA, through which ten candidates will be
selected: Sat Nov 2nd - Sun Nov 3rd
   3.

Elections, through which the ten candidates will be publicly ranked: Mon
   Nov 4th - Fri Nov 8th
   1.

All current undergraduates are eligible to vote in elections and will
      be provided each candidate’s platform.
      2.

Voters will select their (up to) top five candidates.
      3.

Candidates will be ranked in terms of number of votes earned.
      4.

Slating by the UA, through which the final five candidates will be
nominated: Sat Nov 9th - Mon Nov 11th
   1.

To ensure a balance in the diversity of School, class year, gender,
race, and perspective alongside the GSC candidates, the UA will pick five
representatives from the top ranked candidates
      5.

Approval by UA Council: presented Mon Nov 11th, meeting on Wed Nov 13th
   1.

Approval by UA Council will follow a similar process to creating ad
hoc committees and nominations for Institute committees,
outlined in the UA
Constitution, Article IV, Section A: The UA Officers will present Council
with election results and a slate of nominees, with a rationale for the
slate. The slate is effective by approval of a 2/3 vote of the
full voting
      membership of the Council.
      2.

Voting members of UA Council include the presidents of all
dormitories, four IFC representatives, and three Panhel representatives.
      3.

UA Council meeting is open to all undergraduates to attend. Meeting
minutes can also be found on the UA website.

if you have any feedback for what it should look like, please let us know.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email us at
