Hi Undergrads,
In partnership with the graduate student body, we are gauging student
demand for using Gmail for MIT emails without forwarding emails from
Outlook. Please complete this form
<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeKskLvNtQW2DA_9TXk6a2Bb2j1ge7Q4f5dKBdOAqRR68ZxLQ/viewform>
if
you are in favor of having Gmail services be compatible with your MIT
email. The form will take less than 30 seconds to complete.
A quick reminder: TechMart will have new hours over IAP (1/7-1/30), and
will be open Monday-Wednesday from 3-9pm. As always, you can share feedback
about MIT's new at-cost grocery store. If you'd like to join the effort in
making TechMart sustainable, please email ua-feedback at mit.edu!
Happy new year and have a wonderful IAP!

ACADEMICS & PROFESSIONAL
*Participate in Title IX Notice and Comment Period*
*When:* Now till January 28th

*Contact:* bkaushal at mit.edu
The Department of Education proposed new Title IX regulation on November
16, 2018. Title IX is a federal law which prohibits discrimination on the
basis of sex in any education program. Graduate and Undergraduate students
on the Title IX Student Advisory Committee created a handy website with all
of the important information. You have an opportunity to submit public
comments in support/against specific sections of the proposed regulation on
the federal register website. Check out t9tldr.mit.edu for more information
and make your comment before midnight on January 28th, 2019!
*Academic Resilience Storytelling Workshop*
*When:* Jan 10, 10am-11:30am
*Contact:* dnshah at mit.edu <DNSHAH at MIT.EDU>
Storytelling is a chance to reflect on your life, take stock of the events
you've lived through, and think about how they have shaped you as a person.
At MIT, we all have stories of resilience and growth in the face of
academic setback and challenges. When you are struggling, it’s helpful to
hear that others struggle, how they cope, and hear that aspects of our own
narratives are shared by others.
Facilitated by Kirsty Bennett, a former director and producer for The Moth,
this workshop will encourage you to identify what stories you might want to
tell, introduce basic narrative storytelling structure and help you begin
to craft your own story.
Please register for the workshop here
<https://mit.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0lElxA9qh8k4SmV>. Please note
that this opportunity is open to undergraduate and graduate students only.
This event is being hosted by Flipping Failure, a new MIT initiative to
help undergraduate and graduate students develop resilience in the face of
academic challenge.
*15.000, Explorations in Management*
*When:* Spring 2019
*Contact:* ugeducation at sloan.mit.edu
15.000, Explorations in Management, offers first year students an
opportunity to learn more about the Sloan School, and its faculty,
students, alumni, subjects, and possible future careers. Weekly discussions
cover topics including, but not limited to: Entrpreneurship, Analytics,
Operations, Negotiation, Accounting, and Communication. Dinner is provided
during each class session. Offered for-credit (3 units) on P/D/F, from
Mondays 7 to 9PM.
*Designing the First-Year Experience: Fun-Sized*
*When: *Over IAP, 1/22-2/1 from 2-5 pm every day
*Contact:* katew at mit.edu
DFY: Fun-Sized (2.s974/2.s790) is a 3-unit subject building on the original
Designing the First-Year Experience at MIT class offered in Spring 2018.
We welcome students who were involved with the prior class as well as
first-year students and others who were not able to participate last year.
The class will focus on exploring ideas for radical changes to the
first-year experience that could be piloted with a small group of students,
for example in a First-Year Learning Community (FLC), as well as less
dramatic changes that could be tested with the entire Class of 2023.
